About this listen

How do you confront your husband when you don't want to know the truth?

Twenty years ago Dennis Danson was arrested and imprisoned for the brutal murder of a young girl in Florida's Red River County. Now he's the subject of a true-crime documentary that's whipping up a frenzy online to uncover the truth and free a man who has been wrongly convicted.

A thousand miles away in England, Samantha is obsessed with Dennis' case. She exchanges letters with him and is quickly won over by his apparent charm and kindness to her. Soon she has left her old life behind to marry him and campaign for his release.

But when the campaign is successful and Dennis is freed, Sam begins to discover new details that suggest he may not be quite so innocent after all....

Just a little bit more ....

I was gripped by this book from the very beginning. I loved the similarities to ‘making a murderer ‘, I liked the way that ‘something ‘ started to evolve in the story and that something wasn’t quite right. BUT, I felt disappointed by the ending, I needed more info ... who, when, why, what !! There was a little bit of information but but that opened more need for information. Great performances, I really couldn’t wait to listen to this book, just a let down at the end.

Simple story, read very well

I surprisingly enjoyed this story. I assumed from the sample it would’ve been predictable and yes it was but it wasn’t so predictable that I gave up reading half way through. I would give it a shot if I were you

Original Story

Although the narration became a little over the top at times, the story was original and had many dark moments which kept me listening

Wow fascinating, really well read different who done it

Having never really understood women who write and even marry to guys on death row other than as long as USA keeps them locked you have romance with no dirty socks, and loneliness is awful. This listen has lots of twists and turns explores loyalty, delusions and the cruelty, kindness and sheer complexity of love, need and damaged people. Took me a short while to get into it but well worth it

Disappointing ending

The story rolled great and you got a feeling that it would end up with a real surprising ending, but, it failed at that point. The end just didn’t do the book justice, sort of finished up in a hurry.

Meh

Such a good plot yet was flat and drawn out in the middle.
Would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for the awful American accents and ear piercing shouts.

Loved it

Really enjoyed this slightly disappointing ending felt like it built and built but then it was all too quick at the end. Maybe I just didn’t want it to end.
Loved it though x

Fantastic Original Book

I really enjoyed this book it was totally original. The premise of the story was intriguing, what makes an ordinary British woman fall in love with an American murderer on death row? The way in which this question was dealt with had me gripped from page one and I could barely stop until it was finished. The narration was really good and Christina really conveyed Samantha. The ending was excellent tense and nerve shattering with a final twist. My only criticism would be that I would have liked the portrait of Samantha to have been drawn out a bit more. The press described her in a certain way, but this was never confirmed by Amy Lloyd in her narrative and I felt that I really wanted to know what she actually looked like and if this had any bearing on her actions. Overall a brilliant book.
