Summary

A grandmother’s loving bequest changes three lives forever in a heartwarming novel about finding love, hope, and family by New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown.

An inheritance has reunited three estranged cousins. Their grandmother Lucy left Nessa, Flynn, and April her home nestled in the woods near Blossom, Texas, as well as a hope chest to be unlocked after they complete a special task. Together, they must hand-stitch a cherished quilt Lucy left unfinished. It meant everything to her. And now, to three people struggling with their own patchwork pasts...

To Nessa, the house has always been an escape from her strict parents—a home away from home. Flynn has followed a profligate path into adulthood, never guessing it would lead him here. And the town of Blossom only stirs up a lifetime of disappointments for April. Lost and with nowhere to go, her last chance is helping fulfill Nanny Lucy’s final wish.

Thread by healing thread, Nessa, Flynn, and April bond over the quilt and all it represents. As they discover the family they’ve been looking for in one another, they share more than memories. They share the hope of new beginnings.

Not much plot and slow moving

Slow-moving and not much happens, despite the nearly 10 hours running time. The book is more character-than plot-driven and follows the characters' internal thoughts and experiences and how it makes them who they've been and how they want to change. It's a shame that when the plot could have actually developed, the book concludes. Disappointing.

Themes of the book include relationships (mostly familial), religion and new starts. I found the southern (USA) accent a bit grating too which, of course, is personal preference, but that paired with characters comparing who is worse off and the oft 'poor me' attitude is annoying.

Everybody needs family

This story was one that was so enjoyable, when a grandmother dies and leaves three cousins a hope chest and special instructions things will never be the same. All three are carrying around a past they would like to change, so they come back to a place they loved to come every summer as kids. Grandma Lucy leaves a hope chest that they can only open when they finish a quilt she left unfinished. While working on the quilt they learn about one another and what they hiding inside. Once you start this story, you won't be able to put it down.

Predictable and repetitive light reading...

The story line was one of acknowledging shortcomings in oneself, redemption, forgiveness, and the importance of love and family. There was a good bit of repetition and predictability. With that being said, I did listen to (and read) the entire book.

Excellent story of family

I was keep wondering which way the story would end. showing what can happen when mental problems affect several generations. It was well presented and i felt an attachment to each charcter.

Just a good story about three cousins

Coming to grips with the realities of their childhood and finding out who their grandmother really was. Each of them broken in different ways by their upbringing but learning to become better people as they go along. It’s a story of hope. It’s worth the listen.

Boring

Wow, repetitive and shallow plot line. Used my fast forward a lot! Ok, though, like a soap opera, I was able to pick up where I left off... Glad that's over!
