Summary
In this short, easy-to-listen fable, best-selling author Mark Miller reveals five habits that underlie leadership character and that determine a leader's success - and he teaches leaders how to develop these habits.
Like Miller's previous books, this one follows the life, learning, and influence of Debbie Bruster. Here she finds herself mentoring Blake Brown, the son of her former mentor. Rather than answer Blake's questions about leadership directly, Debbie introduces him to other leaders, each of whom shares a unique perspective on what really makes a leader successful. As Blake puts the pieces together, he discovers his problem is not one of skills but of character - that leadership is more about the heart of the leader than the head or hands. In fact, Miller summarized these traits with the acronym HEART: Hunger for Wisdom, Expect the Best, Accept Responsibility, Respond with Courage, and Think Others First.
With the help of his new friends and mentors, Blake is able to build a plan to transform his heart. The good news is that leadership is not just the purview of the few - it is within reach for millions of aspiring leaders around the world.
This book is the road map they need to get their lives and careers on track.

This book is a disaster
- the narrator does different voices for the characters - come on! It is not a children's book
- the book could be significantly shorter, but the author just had to make it long with a lot of pointless filling
I quickly upped the speed to 2.5x because the story is boring and predictive
Do not waste your time with this book

Great introductory book for aspiring leaders!
I like the fact that the book was as a short story.
It was very interesting and inspiring.
I don’t know how valid the points are ( from a scientific/ business field) but there are certainly helpful!

loved it, really intresting concept
I've listened to many many management leadership books, however loved to concept of a "story" rather than just talking on a specific topic

Not great
Not very engaging. Narration is a bit stilted. Told like a simple 'he said she said' story. couldn't finish it.

Narrator was awful
The narrator used d voices for the different characters. It was difficult to listen too. More of a story than self help .

A good introduction to servant leadership
This book is a good intro to servant leadership for someone new to the concept. I read this because it was recommended to me however the dialogue is flat, dry and unrealistic. While it did explain the principles of servant leadership and how it changes people, it was hard to make a connection to the main “character” because the conversation in which the different aspects of SL were explained felt generic and dumbed down. Not my favorite but I can see how it would be helpful to some.

One of the best introductions to leadership
Excellent work by the author to introduce new leaders to the concept of Servanthood leadership. Easy to remember acronym HEART that explains the main aspect of a servant leader.
Recommended as an introductory book to new leaders or those even thinking about leadership.

A simple story for a complex change of heart.
The narrator and flow were easy to follow. What makes this book fantastic is the simplicity of the message wrapped in an easy to process story that not only inspired self improvement, but gave the knowledge of the tools required and how to use them to mold the mind into something better.

Leadership character journey to discovery.
There are leaders and there are good leaders and there are great leaders. What separates them is character. Can character be developed? How can we find mentors and coaches that display character? Is a corporate title required of your mentor? I enjoyed the narrative flow of this book as it guided me through a self exploration of my leadership character along with the protagonist. It is a simple and easy read with memorizing techniques that will benefit young and seasoned leaders alike.

Painful!
Wow! This is probably the worse narration of any book, ever. I tried to listen on several occasions and I just couldn't muddle through. Jim Manchester presents this book as if he were performing all the roles in a short play. I'm sure there are probably some gems of information in there somewhere. I just couldn't bear to listen another moment.
