Summary

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will."

Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Colin's job was to abduct Mia as part of a wild extortion plot and deliver her to his employers. But the plan takes an unexpected turn when Colin suddenly decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota, evading the police and his deadly superiors. Mia's mother, Eve, and Detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them, but no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family's world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how, even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

Good story let down by one of the narrators

Really interesting and gripping story with excellent narration from all but Eve’s character which was weak and unconvincing and did not fit the character. She sounded as if she was reading the script for the first time. Still worth listening to though.

A great book

Thought I was going to hate it, but was immediately struck by the beautiful voices and the unusual structure. Got used to it, then really fell in love with this book. Am determined to read all Mary Kubica books. I recommend wholeheartedly.

Highly Overrated

The novel way of telling the story was interesting at first, but became tedious due to the unnecessary length of this book. For such as simple storyline, it definitely felt unnecessarily drawn out. The epilogue gave a slightly interesting twist, but this 10+ hour book definitely could’ve been 5 hours long. If I had to do again, I would’ve found something more thrilling with a better plot.

Gem of a Book

I enjoy a lot of books and audio books but every now and then comes one that stands out The Good Girl is a stand out book. I really enjoyed the writing style I felt it captured real depth of the characters without wasting words and making me wish the author would just get on with it. The narration so often a deal breaker for me is just well ... perfect. My most enjoyable listen in a while.

Very Enjoyable Listen

I very much enjoyed this book. The story was good it had some good twists and turns. It moved at a good pace. The book swaps between four characters (well three for the most part). It follows the story of a girl who has been kidnapped. The main characters are the kidnapper, the police man looking for the her and the mother. I can't say too much as I don't want to spoil the story, but it is interesting.

The narration was excellent. I liked the four person narration. I found all the voices enjoyable to listen to.

Very enjoyable

This was really good, good and bad characters but all well developed. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the narration of “Gabe”. Not that the narrator wasn’t good but it, for me, jarred with the things we found out about Gabe as the book moved on. In the beginning it gave the book a feeling of old fashioned detective films where there is narration over the top of the movie and as though Gabe was a tired, old, non caring caricature of say Colombo in his scruffy coat when I think Gabe was much deeper (and better turned out, though Colombo was a particular hero of mine!) than that. Altogether, excellent though.

Gripping

An interesting take with the story told by the kidknapper, mother and detective

I was gripped throughout, the story is sad when 'Owen' opens up about his life in poverty and although I guessed some of the narrative, the ending was a complete surprise
