Summary

Acclaimed author Karen White returns to Charleston, South Carolina, with the second novel in the New York Times best-selling Tradd Street series.

Melanie Middleton has grown accustomed to renovating old houses, but she never imagined she'd have to renovate her own life to include her estranged mother. Ginnette Prioleau Middleton left Charleston 35 years ago. She's returned wanting to protect the daughter she's never really known after receiving an ominous premonition.

Melanie never wanted to see her mother again, but with some prodding from her partner, Jack Trenholm, she agrees - and begins to rebuild their relationship. Together Melanie and Ginnette buy back their old home. With their combined psychic abilities they expect to unearth some ghosts. But what they find is a vengeful dark spirit whose strength has been growing for decades. It will take unearthing long buried secrets to beat this demon and save what's left of Melanie's family....

This is a re-release of a 2009 book

Audible sent this to me as if it was released in July 2019, but it is the second in a series of books which I read a long time ago.
I hate when they do that!
I am returning it

Not my usual read…..

Generally, I would not choose the genre that relies so heavily on spirits being a normal occurrence.
In spite of my skeptical outlook, this book kept my attention, and keeping the spirits and ‘real’ people straight was not difficult. I will perhaps choose another book in this series if I want something escapist, with strong characters, a smattering of history, and a bit of a love story.
This book provided a diversion from the sad reality of the state of the world and the United States as we struggle to maintain our democracy.

Such a good book! Wow

If you’re like me, you are listening to audio books a lot more now with the covid19 social distancing. You should read this while series by Karen White. He write is rich with plot, characters, believable dialogue, even with the element of supernatural, White avoids over saturation of ghostly appearances, balancing it her great character development. Enjoy it, it’s great.

My Own Copy

I LOVE the tradd street series. This one added in new characters and love the way the legare street house came back into the family. This is my 4th time listening through the series. I finally decided to stop waiting for my library copies, (usually on hold), and wanted to get my OWN copies. I love Aimée Bruneaus voice and inflection. She is a terrific reader. Thank you Karen White for your wonderful stories!

A Winner

Here is another fantastic book by Karen White and narrator Aimee Bruneau! I just love all of Ms. White’s ghostly mysteries.
I like to be kept guessing until the very end and this story lives up to my expectations! I cannot wait for her new book to be released in October!

Excellent book

I love to listen to the narrator, that sweet Southern sound. And the story - about as scary as I’ll let myself get these days. An acceptable amount of spooky!

Could not put it down.

A must read! I loved this story and could not put it down. When I started book 1 I said to myself we dont really talk like that do we? After about 30 minutes my accent thickened. I just fell in love with the characters and the story.
