Summary
On the morning of Gail's birthday, she watches her shadow slip under the kitchen door. She's not surprised it decided to leave. Her dad has gone for good. captivating
Beautifully read, with distinct characters. slightly abrupt conclusion, but not disappointing. I probably didn't want the story to end :) well worth a listen. I will listen again for sure and be looking for other titles by this narrator.

Enjoyable and moving but I have concerns...
...as someone who has done year round swimming in the UK, it's very dangerous to be swimming when your lips are blue and if you're kids listen to this PLEASE stress that's its magic realism AND REALLY NOT A GOOD IDEA! Otherwise really enjoyed it!

Brilliant, magical lyrical - a true future classic.
Surprised at the incredible quality of this Audio production is an understatement. This book took me back to the days when as a child I would gather up library books like treasure and bear them home to devour. Once in a while I would happen upon a book that would be a little harder to fathom that would get under my skin and change how I saw the world. That was more than fifty years ago and this incredible book recreated that magic. I was left breathless by it and I know I will be rereading this often over the next years. I am off to get the ebook now and see if I can get a hard copy too. I hope Emily Ilett writes much more. I will watch out for her work from now on and I intend to tell everyone I know who enjoys great writing about this wonderful book. Definitely not just for children like all great so-called children’s books.

Didn't enjoy the plot
I didn't like the plot at all - it's so dark and drawn out, it takes ages to finally come the the resolution of the story which is also not very climatic or fulfilling. Maybe just not my cup of tea. Good narration though.

Couldn't get into it
The narrator was okay but I found the story boring and slow moving. I kept falling asleep and my mind kept wondering. Unfortunately it just wasn't an engaging story, at least not to me.
