Story
“They’re going to kill me soon,” begins the note Amelia discovers in an antique hurdy-gurdy. From that moment on, the shy young woman finds herself doing all kinds of things she never thought possible. Between newfound intimacies and a risky journey into the past, Amelia comes to see herself in a whole new light. The scrawled note drives Amelia to find out what happened to the person who wrote it, identified only as “Hannah.” Who was Hannah? Was she really murdered? Amelia’s investigation leads her to dizzying new heights of romance and danger. Like a tightrope walker, she must not look down—especially when she finds herself in situations uncannily similar to those Hannah faced just before her murder. Like the Mrs. Pollifax mysteries for which Dorothy Gilman is famous, The Tightrope Walker features a spirited and unpretentious heroine and an intriguing mystery, enhanced by colorful settings and characters. Ruth Ann Phimister’s skillful narration adds a personal dimension, making you care about Amelia and the fascinating and dangerous people she meets.

- By Prester Jim on 16-05-21
Summary
Thrown into the alternate universe of 14th-century England, 20th-century mathematician Jim Eckert and his wife, Angie, have become Sir James, Baron de Bois de Malencontri, and Lady Angela. A bit of a shock, but they'd coped with it. In fact they were dealing with their new life's hazards and magical manifestations just fine. Until Jim is suddenly transformed into a dragon. None too pleased about this latest turn of events, Jim turns for help to his neighbour, the magician S. Carolinus, who takes him on as an apprentice. When Prince Edward is captured by the French at the Battle of Poitiers, Jim sets out with some companions, including Aaargh the wolf, to join the English forces. He ends up as chief pawn in a battle against the Dark Powers - with extraordinary consequences.

What an adventure...
Science and sorcery collide in this epic tale of high fantasy. I had always enjoyed the story of The flight of dragons, the old Ramkin and Bass animated film from years ago. When I found out it was based on a book series I eagerly looked into getting the stories in the dragon knight series, and was not at all disappointed. The story and characters are extremely well written. The story keeps your interest until the end. Looking forward to the next story and definitely recommend this book.

My First AudioBook
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am a big fan of dragons and fantasy that has an overall fun and adventurous story. I would definitely recommend this to a friend or complete stranger. This book or i should say book series has it all for me. I love that it is not so much a simple tale but a telling one that is imaginative and fun. I like how Jim really is set apart from all the rest and really has to work within the rules of society back in the 1400's. I also like how there is a set rule to how everything works, but at the same times doesn't. It's also a fun good vs evil and thats always fun.
Have you listened to any of Paul Boehmer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I really like this voice actor! He is fun and really makes each character distinct

Almost...
For the most part this story was great. It was exciting and thrilling at many points. And the narrator is wonderful to listen to.
I only felt the majority of the last three/four hours of this book dragged quite a bit. It reminds me of the ending of Lord of the Rings where the battle is won but several other minor or potential problems arise that then have to be wrapped up so the story seems to continue on and on.
I really do like the characters and look forward to reading more from this series, just the ending of this book left me wishing it wrapped up much sooner than it did.

There are some things that bother me.
I really like the overall story of this book and the previous one so far.
As a fan of Dragons and all things related, I'm frustrated with the lack of visual description of the dragon characters. There's hardly anything, except how they supposedly walk on their hind legs. I find that odd. what color are their scales/eyes? what shape are their horns? do all dragons look the exact same in this world?
The dragons are why I'm here honestly. I'm a little disappointed they are so vague.

Excellent
Would you consider the audio edition of The Dragon Knight to be better than the print version?
This audio edition is better than the printed version because of Paul Boehmer's reading. He does a great job and adds to the story.
What did you like best about this story?
Our main character trying to deal with his situations while keeping his 20th century self in proportion. It is especially evident as he tries to keep clean and free of lice, ticks in such a way not to give offense to his companions. It is funny in how he tries to keep his alcohol consumption to a minimum as the water is undrinkable and full of disease.
Which scene was your favorite?
It is definitely when Jim Eckert tries to escape from an underwater female water elemental without giving offense and keeping his virtue intact.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I am not a movie person. I have no idea for a tag line.
Any additional comments?
A good second book of this series.
