Summary

You don’t really know a guy until you’ve vacationed with him…

When Drew Wilson’s ex-boyfriend Joel “Six” Bailey asks her to go on his family trip to Hawaii with him just as her life is falling apart, she decides it's the perfect time to give him another chance.

The hitch? The Bailey family includes Six’s rude older brother, Joshua - a hot nerd doctor who has hated Drew since the moment they met and once suggested she’d steal the family silver.

Drew is determined to win the Baileys over and give this thing with Six a fair shot…but Joshua is making that difficult. Not simply because he is in her way at every turn, but because - as one tropical adventure leads to the next - she’s beginning to wonder if obnoxious, odious Joshua might be the brother she actually belongs with.

I'm in love with the author and the narrators 😍😍

𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔻𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕝 𝔸𝕟𝕕 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔻𝕖𝕖𝕡 𝔹𝕝𝕦𝕖 𝕊𝕖𝕒 - 𝔼𝕝𝕚𝕫𝕒𝕓𝕖𝕥𝕙 𝕆'ℝ𝕠𝕒𝕣𝕜

So it turns out that I read in reverse order and started in the third book but I didn't feel any holes in the plot so I'm going with my mistake and read the second book, after that I'll read the first one🤣

Imagine that your ex calls you and asks for a second chance.
You both will fly to Hawaii for a dream vacation and there you work on your relationship.
So far sounds lovely right? So did Drew though, she packed a suitcase and got on a plane to Hawaii.
Then she finds out that it's not just a vacation with the ex - his parents, his (devilishly handsome) brother which doesn't like you and also his stuck up girlfriend and welcoming her at the airport.
So where is the ex you ask? IN JAIL!!! Don't panic it's a mistake!
He'll be free to go within three days to will join Drew.
The vacation is for a week!!!! What will Drew do now for three whole days with the parents she only met once, with his brother who doesn't exactly tolerate her and his girlfriend who stares at her like she kicked a puppy?

One of the most beautiful books I've read❤️
Such a unique and immersive plot! I felt like I was right there, traveling to every island in Hawaii, I was excited every time a layer dropped from Josh and Drew.

There is so much here beyond what meets the eye - very deep characters, I enjoyed reading each of their points of view, I was repeatedly exposed to layers that cannot be seen from the outside.
I really liked the characters of Josh and his mother - their relationship is one of the most beautiful I've come across.
And Drew ,she's amazing I fell in love with her from the first page 😍 I adored the process she went through in the book it made me really admire her!
This author is on the list of my favorite writers now😍
This book is highly recommended to anyone looking for a book that will make you laugh and leave a huge smile on your face, that will make you excited and fall in love with a sweet and special love story, and in general that will make you believe in fairy tales❤️

Drew and Josh!

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by Elizabeth O’Roark was my very first book from this author and I can say I’m obsessed. I loved this forbidden enemies to lovers slow burn with phenomenal writing.
The writing was so seamless, smooth, the banter was witty - Just a very fresh read.
The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea follows the story of Drew and Josh.
Drew – Narrated by the fantastic Samantha Brentmoor is a pretty famous pop star who has found herself looking pretty awful in the tabloids recently. She decides she needs a break, and heads to Hawaii for a extended stay with her boyfriends (loose terms here) family.
Josh – Narrated by Lee Samuels who did a stellar job as the caring, protective and kindhearted doctor. Who has been spending most of his time in providing aid to a third world country.
I loved watching these two become friends, getting to know how each other clicks, and how perfect these two fits together. This book had so many of my favorite tropes wrapped into one great story!
I cannot wait to read more from Elizabeth!

Sweet endearing story

Drew and Josh's story was a good surprise, I loved Drew, definitely a great character, I truly liked the way she grew as a person within the story. Josh was so sweet and selfless, a great change to what I usually read. The whole story was a good experience, it was light but with deep meaning, it is a slow burn which I love as well and I really liked the narration provided by Samantha Brentmoor and Lee Samuels, if you like audiobooks then get this one.

Story: 4.5 ⭐️
Steam: 3 🔥
Audio: 5 🎧

I loved this 🥹 the tropes were perfect and the story was executed so well! Forced proximity, boyfriend’s brother, hate to love, vacation romance, pop star x doctor.

I was hooked from page one. It did feel like it slowed a little toward the end but it ended really well. I love Josh. He’s so protective and grumpy I just wanna squish him. Drew is so broken and seeing her realize she deserves more than she was giving herself was amazing.

I can’t wait for the next book!

Josh & Drew

Audiobook Review

I haven’t listened/read many Elizabeth O’Roark, but WOW, did she deliver in any single one of them.
And does Ms O’Roark write FMCs with Samantha Brentmoor’s voice in mind? Because she was perfect as Drew!! Soft yet feisty. Sweet yet resilient.
Josh was an amazing MMC. With every chapter from his point of view I could feel what he was feeling, every time he panicked with concern with others I was right there with him. That Somália scene had me a nervous wreck. Thank you Lee Samuels for bringing Josh’s complex and deep character to life.
This book was beautifully intense. Both characters grew so much within the 12 day trip to Hawaii, not just together but as individuals as well.
I was sad when the book ended.

Loved it

I loved this book so much!

This enemies-to-lovers book has everything you want in a book, the tension, the chemistry, the passion and the longing! AHH, it was all there.

Drew agrees to go to Hawaii with her ex Joel (Six) and his family. Hoping to see if they can get their relationship back on track, life has different plans for Drew, instead of going on morning runs with Joel, Drew instead spends a lot of time with Joshua, Joels brother and her least favourite person.

The descriptions in this book were amazing, I felt like I was there. Also, as this was a dual POV, I got to really understand why each character behaved the way they did and ahh some of their inner thoughts had me swooning! Also, I want to point out the character development, there is a lot going on internally and wow, when these characters finally got to where they needed to be, wow! I loved every second of their journey!

Overall I highly recommend this audiobook!

Slow burn romance with Hawaii as the backdrop!

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is the story of Drew Wilson. Drew is a famous singer who has been going from one scandal to another in the media of late and is invited on holiday with ex-boyfriend Six (Joel) and his family to Hawaii. She decides to go and use it as a chance to see if she and Six can work on their relationship plus it gives her the opportunity to screw with Six’s brother Josh who she hates with a fiery passion.
Josh can’t believe his Mum has invited Sloan, his ex-girlfriend on the trip. He doesn’t have the heart to tell his Mum they’ve broken up as she’s recovering from chemotherapy and as Sloan wants him back, they decide to keep up appearances for her sake.
They say there’s a fine line between love and hate and since Six misses the first half of the trip the line blurs very quickly and the chemistry between Drew and Josh just builds and builds until it eventually boils over.
Samantha and Lee are both new to me narrators and honestly, I love them. Their performances as Drew and Josh are truly compelling. I felt every emotion and found myself routing for the pair romantically early on which is a testament not only to the author but also to the fabulous narrators. I look forward to more from these voice actors both together and separately.
I fell in love with this audio from the beginning. From the island hopping, crystal clear blue waters of Hawaii, to the heroine who is super sassy but is hiding a world of pain, to the hero who starts off the villain but turns out to be a knight in shining armour over and over again, and secondary characters who are just fabulous and each bring something different to the story.
I can’t wait to see what’s next from this amazing author.

Awww

‘𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐞’𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐤𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐰𝐞’𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.‘

I’m such a sucker for a book that can make me laugh and cry in the same pages, and this one.
Can I petition for us to just name all of the fictional boyfriends Josh? Bc every time I pick up a book and it’s a Josh, I just know they’re about to stomp all over my heart and set the bar so high that it’ll hurt when I land back in reality.
Drew was just the right type of heroine, finding her backbone, making her way in the world, and she definitely got by with the help of her friends.
I’ve been listening to the audio, and these narrators really nailed it.
