Summary
The UK's leading expert tells you all you need to know about the perimenopause and menopause.
Menopause affects 51% of the population. Yet despite increased awareness in recent years, so much of the menopause remains a mystery. Here, Dr Louise Newson, the UK's leading menopause specialist, breaks remaining taboos with the definitive guide to menopause. The Definitive Guide to the Perimenopause and Menopause starts with the key facts about hormones, their importance and their effects on our bodies, before delving into family histories and their effects on menopause, the essential guide to HRT, our libidos, our mental and physical health, how menopause affects our careers and relationships and so much more.
Dr Louise Newson covers five key elements:
- The essentials: must-know information that is evidence-based and accessible.
- Exclusive research and findings from Dr Newson's non-profit Newson Health Research and Education and Balance community.
- Common questions women want to know answered.
- Real stories: Women share their own menopause experiences—including Dr Newson.
- Expert views: a panel of experts in fields including neurology, nutrition, psychology and oncology.
You'll come away with a clear understanding of what menopause is, how it can affect our health, relationships and careers as well as how best to cope during menopause.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Informative but rm for audble-related improvement
A really informative and holistic assessment of all things menopause-related. However, as a listener, I found the repetition of 'Healthcare Professional' really irritating and felt the narrator sounded a bit patronising at times and quite bizarre actually, when quoting others using a different voice.
I was disappointed that the attached pdf was mainly recipes. I think it would be better to have it more as a 'quick guide reference' or perhaps a glossary identifying, for example, different hormones etc or for bits that are more difficult to understand, such as reading BP etc, might be good to see written down.
Overall, I'd recommend the book, just not via audible.

Good content, mediocre performance
Didn't like the pompous narration. She pronounced some medical terms very oddly too. This book would be much better as a physical copy for reference, if you are okay with reading. Not as useful in audiobook format but it may be the only option for some people. However the chapters are very long so it's hard to go back and find info you want to review without having to relisten the entire chapter and there is no equivalent to an index. Otherwise the content is fine but I wished she went a little deeper with some topics scientifically.

Illuminating
I really enjoyed the factual, science based approach to understanding the menopause. I feel educated and empowered to go back to my GP to get what my body needs to manage the menopause.

This is an amazing book and a must read
The information and knowledge within this book has been second to none for me. 47 year old perimenopause woman hope hadn’t realised what had been happening to me and my body until I heard this book. I am now only HRT journey and happier knowing I understand myself more. Thank you

Menopause
Listening to Dr Louise Newson book on audible. This book is more in depth than Divina McCall's Menopausing book.
Dr Louise Newson, explains, during menopause, low oestrogen levels can affect the sympathetic nervous system causing a flight, fight, freeze, response.

Excellent book
Everyone should read this! Great insight and reassuring to know we aren’t alone especially when dealing with GPs who don’t know much about perimenopause

Excellent resource
It would have been better read by Dr Louise herself, however narrating book content isn’t for everyone! I will buy the paperback version too - remember to link to her free weekly podcast either via Audible or the Balance App.
