Summary

Remember those people that destroyed the economy and then cruised off on their yachts? Well guess what? Someone is killing them.

Dublin is in the middle of a heat wave, and tempers are running high. The Celtic Tiger is well and truly dead, activists have taken over the headquarters of a failed bank, the trial of three unscrupulous property developers teeters on the brink of collapse, and in the midst of all this, along comes a mysterious organisation hell-bent on exacting bloody vengeance in the name of the little guy.

Paul Mulchrone doesn’t care about any of this; he has problems of his own. His newly established detective agency is about to be DOA. One of his partners won’t talk to him for very good reasons, and the other has seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth for no reason at all. Can he hold it together long enough to figure out what Bunny McGarry’s colourful past has to do with his present absence?

When the law and justice no longer mean the same thing, on which side will you stand?

The Day That Never Comes is the second book in Caimh McDonnell’s Dublin Trilogy, which melds fast-paced action with a distinctly Irish acerbic wit.

Excellent follow up to the first book

Having gone straight to the second book from the first it was great to find out that, if anything, it was better. Characters were fleshed out further and amongst the horrors there were laugh out loud moments.

The narration is very good but just like the first book there are some very obvious edits cut in with different volume and tone that interrupt the flow for the listener. This is not enough to ruin the experience but seems incongruous to the overall quality of story and performance hence the missing star.

I shall be moving straight on to the 3rd book with eager anticipation.

Bunny Saves the Day

This is a great series of books with Bunny McGarry the stand out character and everyone else supporting him. In this novel Bunny has gone missing. That's the only reason I've left a star off - because I wanted more Bunny. Paul and Phil are like the son and his mate from Mrs Brown's Boys - a couple of irritating jokers who need to get their act together to be taken seriously. Next I'm going straight to the prequel 'Angels in the Moonlight' because that's all Bunny and I think it will set me up nicely for 'Last Orders'.

Outstanding Follow up

The book is imho better than the first. Morgan’s performance is incredible and greatly enhances the story over standard print. All the various characters really come alive thanks to him. Caimh writes some really interesting and quirky characters. I look forward to the renaming books in the series being available in audio.

Great story, great voice actor

I loved this book. So far it's the only book I've enjoyed more in Audible than when reading. The voice acting is something really special.

Fun yet Smart

Another great book in the series, can’t wait to get into the third. Great character arcs and enjoyably light read/listen

Another cracker!

I’ve been on a Caimh McDonnell binge. Done all Stranger Times. Getting through Dublin “Trilogy. Most excellent.

Mick Heron, Robert Galbraith & the boul Caimh - the not so holy trinity of great storytelling

I initially came across Caimh via “The Stranger Times” many moons ago, and then Paul, Brigid & the ludicrously brilliant Bunny McGarry popped up in my Audible “Recommendations”.
And what an absolute joy, again superbly read by Morgan C Jones.
If you like your yarns full of mad-dog shite, you’ll love this.
Two of three down in ‘The Dublin Trilogy’, I have a certain Jackson Lamb next up, with Strike & Robyn due later in the week, and my 2 weeks in Portugal are shaping up nicely 🇵🇹😎🏖️📚

Caimh McDonnell always delivers

“Proper Irish” is how I refer to these books. The wit, the language, the observations made by each character, so funny. Well thought out plot. Bunny, a true Cork man in every sense, just fantastic. The books themselves are great, but as audiobooks, they come to life effortlessly with the excellent narration by Morgan C Jones. I wish I could find an option to give 10 stars.
