Summary
Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy. While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he - or she - has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.
Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own? And if not, who will help her succeed - and who among the following will work secretly to see her fail?
There is a handsome rugby player, a sexy plumber, a charlatan reporter and a selection of meddling locals. Add in a hit-and-run incident and the disappearance of a valuable engraved necklace, and what you get is a journey of self-discovery and unpredictable events. With surprising and heartfelt results, Rosa, accompanied at all times by her sausage dog Hot, will slowly unravel the shadowy secrets of the inheritance and also bring her own long-hidden heritage into the light.

Loved the story. Narrator not so much.
I really enjoyed the story. Sadly the only voice the narrator used, the one for Rosa, was likeable. All the others the narrator voiced were frankly creepy sounding and grated. Nevertheless, I endured because the story itself is compelling. A bit mills and boon, but with enough complexity and intrigue to keep you wanting to know more.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is prepared to overlook the narrators odd accents as it is an enjoyable piece of writing.

Light, bright, entertaining Chic-Lit spoiled by atrocious Narration
The storyline was a good one & well written. I will look up more of this author’s works. It was just an easy read, with a cute dog & a happy ending. The narration was so awful it unfortunately detracted from trying to concentrate on the storyline. This book is best read, rather than choosing the Audio version.

Poor reader
This sounded interesting as a bedtime story but even wide awake I did not like the voices. So irritating

Didn't want it to end.
Oh my goodness. I was bereft and missing Rosa and co. as soon as I got to the end. What a truly lovely book with a happy ending. Just my cup of tea.

A bit disappointed
I really liked the look of this book and the story was really quite good but the narrator let it down for me. The main character was ok but the Devonshire locals all sounded slow and creepy. I nearly sent the book back because of it but as the story was quite good I decided to finish it.

Wouldn't recommend this book!
Talk about a fairly tale?!?. I will avoid books by this author. Dreadful narrator....sounds as if she had a bad case of sinusitis.

this is a Marmite book
my wife could not stand the narrators babyish voice. Where as I did not mind it and felt it fitted the part. The story is pretty good though.
