Summary

From the Sunday Times best seller comes a warm, tender and utterly hilarious story about love and betrayal

Love can sting. Or make you fly....

Romance writer and single mum Stevie Honeywell has only weeks to go to her wedding when her fiancé Matthew runs off with her glamorous new friend, Jo MacLean. It feels like history repeating itself for Stevie, but this time she is determined to win back her man. She isn't going to act as he might expect. She isn't going to wail and dig her heels in, she is simply going to pretend to let him go whilst she pursues a mad course of dieting, exercising and self-improvement.

And it feels like history is repeating itself for Adam MacLean, too, who is also determined to win his lady, Jo, back with the same basic psychological tactics. Then he is going to initiate his master plan: Getting together with Stevie to drive Jo wild with jealousy.

So, like the Scottish country jig 'The Birds and the Bees', the couples all change partners and learn some revealing truths about each other along the way. But what happens when Adam's master plan actually starts to work? And just who will Stevie be dancing with when the music stops?

Have thoroughly enjoyed my other Millie books

Struggled with this one.
Have loved the others that I've read, but this was daft.
The narrator was good when she wasn't trying to speak Scottish, it slipped into Phyllis Logan off Downton.
I persevered as I was stuck in isolating.
Also, I noted it was a re released book, bit naughty as I thought it was a 2021 book.

Frustrating

Normally I adore Milly Johnson's books and maybe I am being super sensitive but I am Scottish and I felt this story was a bit anti Scottish with all the 'haggis' and 'caber tossing' references. I am half way through and really want to hear what happens with the characters, but I do cringe at parts. Maybe it is the narrator's Scottish accent that grates me. I am going to continue listening but this has soured it a bit for me.

very disappointing

After previously enjoying this authors books and audible narration, this was ultra cringe worthy. a terrible unbelievable story line and a ,'Scots' accent that was dreadful!

Funny

Loved this story, loved the main character who was very funny.
A satisfying story with goodies and baddies but good prevailed.
Brilliant narrator , I hope she will read more Millie Johnson books.

Good story but slightly offensive!

I enjoyed this story but you'd know it was an older book, it was slightly offensive in its portrayal of the Scottish character, not something you hear/read in more recent writings. But allowing for the age of the book, it's an easy listen, a good story and a fabulous narrator.

Good

I’m a big Millie Johnson fan but this book did not bowl me over compared to Millie’s other books. I also missed Colleen Prendergast’s narration. Despite that it still entertained.

Glorious!

Although the narrator wasn't great with a Scottish accent, we ended up ignoring that for the wonderful storyline. Top marks as ever for MJ.

not clean and wholesome

the story is a HEA story as ecpected but not clean. The language was rough and crass. i cannot consider any book clean where the "F" word is used freely-- once is a shock but this was just abusive to hear. Other curses were also litered throughout this book. I really hate to leave a story unfinished so i found myself skipping through large sections. In many cases, i slept through portions and did not bother to go back. There is more to being clean and wholsome than avoiding explicit sex scenes. It also involves promoting good values. To me this book did not meet that criteria so i was very dissaponted. It seems like the author has a great voice. it was too bad it was overshadowed by filty words and jest.

Loved It

only thing that I would improve is the narrator. I think a younger voice might have been extra bonus.
Stevie and Adam must be my favourite couple after Eddie and his girl
