Summary
The Alpha Plague series is a postapocalyptic action thriller.
Book 1:
Rhys is an average guy who works an average job in Summit City - a purpose-built government complex on the outskirts of London. The Alpha Tower stands in the center of the city. An enigma, nobody knows what happens behind its dark glass.
Rhys is about to find out.
At ground zero, and with chaos spilling out into the street, Rhys has the slightest of head starts. If he can remain ahead of the pandemonium, then maybe he can get to his loved ones before the plague does.
Book 2:
Equipped with nothing but a baseball bat and his wits, Rhys enters Summit City for a second time. His son wants his mummy, and Rhys is the only one who can save her. If he can get to the Alpha Tower, he can release the shutters on all of the buildings in the city. Maybe then he can get his ex-wife and best friend out of there.
But opening the shutters will release chaos into the already wild streets.
The only advantage Rhys has over the thousands of other people who will be fighting for their lives is that he understands what he's up against. Hopefully that knowledge will be the difference between life and death.
To make matters worse, an order to incinerate the city has been switched on. In five hours' time, the complex will burn to a crisp.
To give his son what he needs, Rhys has to risk everything. But there is no stronger love in his life than that which he feels for his boy.
One final deep breath, and Rhys reenters hell.
Book 3:
After having found and successfully rescued his ex-wife from the diseased Summit City, Rhys drags himself to where he should be meeting his son and discovers he isn't there.
Armed with nothing but hope, Rhys and his ex-wife set off on what they believe to be their boy's trail. With just enough breadcrumbs to keep them going, they follow the path of their son and his protector in a race against both the spread of the Alpha Plague and a crazed psychopath hell-bent on their destruction.

Good start but quickly goes down hill.
The story to start with is ok, the characters are relatable but after the first book, that all changed. The story becomes a bit of a mess and sometimes dumb, the characters loose focus and any intelligence they had, and any side character becomes a joke rapped in a unbearable cliche.

Infuriating.
I feel sorry for the narrator, how he has read the book out without having a breakdown is beyond me.
I’m currently 11 hours in, the bones of the story are good, it had potential but the main character is ridiculous, I feel like screaming, his mate is equally idiotic. Their interactions with each other and the wider world feel forced, unnatural. Either way, it’s poorly executed.
It is very rare, if not unprecedented that a book invokes this reaction from me, but I just can not carry on.

Wasn't sure at first.
Wasn't sure about this book at first. It was advised to me by my girlfriend, but after reading the reviews, I was a bit hesitant, but I took a chance and I really enjoyed it.
I do understand some of the poor reviews, this book won't be for everyone, and some of the writing doesn't fit well with the characters, and the narrator also doesn't fit some of the characters and how they'd speak.
But, overall, I really enjoyed this book. It's a great zombie read with some really tense sections and some great twists.

Gripping book. Need to read the next one.
I have read the books already, but could not resist the chance to listen to them.
Wonderful narration. Story still had me on tender hooks. Had to stop what I was doing in some parts of the book.
Highly recommend. If you have not read books by Michael Roberston before, get ready to hang onto the seat of your pants. It's a fast ride.

Not what I thought
If a story of a father who would run into a zombie infected city for his ex-wife who hates him is the type of zombie novel you enjoy, then this book is for you. The narrator is great but the overall quality of the book was absolutely not for me.

Fantastic!
I took a chance on this even though it had a low number of reviews. I am so glad I did! I blazed through all 5 available books in this series and I really hope there will be more. The story is fantastic, and the characters are flawed and wonderful. And the narration is **masterful**. Looking forward to book 6!!

OK for high school
Any additional comments?
I was hopeful based on reviews that this book would be of interest. Two hours in and I just had to walk away. The story was there, a zombie apocalypse set in the future. It was the sophomoric interactions with women, the extended descriptions of parking a car and other parts that seem more designed to take up space than to enhance the story that finally convinced me that the dialogue would just continue to aggravate me.

A whole lot of annoying whining
I'm a big fan of zombie apocalypse stories but this one was just painful to listen to. The performance was fine but the characters stunk. There wasn't much along the lines of survival skills... Just a lot of running around and whining for waaaaaay too many hours. There wasn't too terribly much in terms of original content, humor, or interesting interaction. Total waste of time. Best part of the story was the end... Not that it was a great ending - just that the misery of listening to this book was over.

It was pretty awful
The story was dumb, the relationship between the mother ex-husband and son went on and on and on. Don’t bother read something else.

Would make a good B-movie.
Writing was sophomoric and story full of holes. This one was a struggle to get through and made me wonder how it got published in the first place. I say skip it.

Truly enjoyed it!
Just when I had about lost faith in zombie books I was able to listen to this one and it restored my faith that there are still zombie books worth listening to or reading. It was well performed and the story was intriguing, interesting and moved at a good pace. The characters were well developed, but not too many like other books tend to do. I very much enjoyed it!
