Summary

Joey Shannon, an alcoholic whose life has been going nowhere for 20 years, returns to his hometown for the funeral of his father. As he leaves town, he gets a mysterious second chance to relive the night in 1975 when his life began its downward spiral: to both literally and figuratively take the road that he didn't originally take. On this road he is supremely tested by conflict with his successful and charismatic older brother P.J., by conflict between his cynicism and his lost faith, and by conflict between the ultimate good and evil.

Chilling Thriller of Time-Loops & Destiny

Joey Shannon, - sometimes employed, heavy drinker, -, returns to his childhood home to bury his dad. Suffering startling dreams and visions, he is shocked to discovery a quarter of a million dollar inheritance - a gift from his poor dad, which was in turn a gift from his much-more successful brother. Joey takes a drive, and finds a road which literally and physically should not be there, torn up many years ago, it leads to a near-deserted town, Joey's meeting of a teenage girl and the chaos which ensures as they find themselves chased by a serial killer and caught in an inexplicable time-loop.

Strange Highways is the titular novella of the short story collection Dean Koontz wrote some time ago, - this is only the novella on this audiobook. It's fairly good story, not Koontz's best, (that would be his Odd Thomas books), it's a good story for new fans and long time ones.
