Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author comes an evocative, compelling novel of lost love and the unravelling of a small town and its many secrets.

Emery Blackwood's life was forever changed on the eve of her high school graduation, when the love of her life, August Salt, was accused of murdering her best friend, Lily. She'd once dreamt of running away with August, eager to escape the misty, remote shores of Saoirse Island and chase new dreams together. Now, she is doing what her teenage self swore she never would: living a quiet existence among this tight-knit community steeped in folklore and tradition, ruled by the seasons and ancient superstitions.

But when August returns after 14 years to bury his mother's ashes, Emery must confront her first love and the reason he left so abruptly. But the town wants August gone again. And as the island begins to show signs of strange happenings, the emergence of deep betrayals and hidden promises threatens to reveal the truth behind Lily's death once and for all.

'There were tales that only the island knew. Ones that had never been told. I knew, because I was one of them.'

Title and blurb are misleading

What a waste of time! so much drama and so little anything else. It could have been a great mystery, but nope, we have hundreds of pages or minutes in the audio version of inner dialogue from the characters and then fleeting mentions of magic or mystery.

Not her best by any means

Dislike this book very much as the story snd plot were dreadful. Too much about characters and not enough about the story. Expected so much more from the author wanted some of the magic of the YA books she’s done but no only towards the end of this over long boring book did we get a bit of story. Wouldn’t recommend a totally waste of a credit. So much wanted to like this sorry.

Very atmospheric

A solid 4.5🌟
Omg what did I just read! This book sucked me in from the first page. Go gripping. This book is very dark and atmospheric. Full of twists turns and lots of secrets I absolutely loved Emory and August's story and the mystery of the island. This was my first book by Adrienne Young and I can't wait to try more I loved her writing style.
The audio version was absolutely brilliant. It was a full cast audio so every character had thier own voice for their chapter which I love. Listening to it really helped get me immersed in the story and helped with the build up. Highly recommend the audio version of this book

To slow for me

It was a OK book. my first from this author and sadly it didn't leave me with a wish for more.
The story have a few good points where I was wondering and looking forward for what would happen. But most of the book was just to dull and so slow. No, this was not my kind of book, I will not recommend it to anyone.
But the voices was good, I liked the way they read and made the persons in the story come to life.
