Summary

Forget everything you know...about magic....

Jen doesn’t know who people keep mistaking her for, but one thing is clear: Her mystery double is not popular. When Jen is kidnapped by a group bent on revenge for something she never did, it’s up to her friends to rescue her. Little do they know, Jen’s captors are ready for them.

Thomas, TS, Charlie, Dani, and Mariana become the latest victims of a malicious experiment, one that could spell doom for magic-kind. Now their lives, and maybe their entire world, are in Jen’s hands. Unfortunately, escaping the facility is the least of their problems. The experiment is dangerous; one in three test subjects dies. And considering five of them are affected, the odds don’t look good.

Time is running out, and Jen and her friends are faced with the hardest decisions they’ve ever had to make. How do you know who to trust when your own mother isn’t who you thought she was? Just how much will you sacrifice for a friend, even if it’s your life? And how can you make a choice when the wrong one means death?

Great YA

I am in book mourning. This is the last book in the series and I have finished it. Let me tell you why this book has got to me so much..

I joined the blog tour for the audiobook of the first book in this series. I was a little dubious because it was a YA book and that is not a genre that I am overly experienced with. I figured that I loved the Twilight Saga (Don’t judge) so I should give more of the fantasy elements of this genre a go. I am so glad that I did, because I was stunned by how attached I became to these characters.

Elizabeth Kirke has such wonderfully developed characters, who as I have said in previous reviews for this series, all display certain traits that are due to the type of Magic that they are. On top of those aspects the main characters in these books (and there are at least 6 prominent characters in each book) are so unique and believable (while at the same time being unbelievable.) The characters here are the kind that you find yourself getting attached to and you don’t want to say goodbye.

This series has many different types of ‘Magics.’ Witches, wizards, Elementals (of varying types,) vampires, Mermaids, werewolves and types of magics that I was previously unaware of.

It is set in my favourite fantasy setting. Real world where there is an aspect of fantasy that norms, humans, non-magics (I still maintain I am not a muggle) are simply unaware of.

The plot does not suffer due to the effort that has gone into character development. This finale was epic and so wonderfully interwoven. It answered questions that I didn’t even realise I had.

This whole series managed to keep me hooked right from page one of the first book to the final page of this one.

Starla Huchton does another outstanding performance, with clearly recognisable character voices and well expressed personalities and acting out the story. I truly cannot fault her.
