Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of So Much Life Left Over by Louis de Bernières.
Rosie and Daniel have moved to Ceylon with their little daughter to start a new life at the dawn of the 1920s, attempting to put the trauma of the First World War behind them and to rekindle a marriage that gets colder every day. A terrific listen
Typically first class L de B story telling, with marvellous attention to the characters and SPOILER ............. if you loved his Capt. Corelli you will be overjoyed to hear there is a cameo appearance by Dr Iannis. I actually cheered out loud in the car. Plus, a mention of Bunny Warren ! Wonderful stuff, well narrated.

Slow start but it really came good
Great characters that took a while to form but slowly became gripping. Really enjoyed the story that could have gone on a great deal more.

Wonderful, engaging, full of wisdom and warmth.
Another must read (or listen) from Louis de Bernieres - so many questions still to be answered - please may there be a 3rd soon. I thoroughly recommend this at once comforting and stirring book - a great sequel to The Dust That Falls From Dreams.

Brilliant Novel
This is Louis de Bernieres on top form. I had not read 'The Dust That Falls From Dreams' before this so have just ordered it. Even so this reads exceptionally well as a stand alone novel that is sweeping in scope as it covers a turbulent time in our national story. I loved the characters and listened to it, more or less, in one sitting with headphones glued to my ears. I feel so much renewed respect for the generations that populated the novel and really hope there is the planned third instalment.

Another poetic tour de force
With echos of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and a character or two from that famous novel, this is a beautifully told (and read) story of a British family living, loving and falling to pieces in the period between the great wars of Europe.
The Empire looms large, and it’s inevitable decline is mirrored in the increasing shrinking lives of the main protagonists.
It had me laughing and crying too.
Highly recommended.

Heartbreaking, beautiful and so funny
I came to this book already a fan of the authors other work, his stories are a type of English magical realism and this one pulls you in right from the beginning with all the beautiful detail. Would listen again just to rediscover everything - loved it.

A beautiful tale from a master-craftsman
Utterly engrossing sequel to The Dust That Falls from Dreams. De Bernieres manages to create and sustain characters, great and small, that draw you in and leave you wanting to know more. And, as ever, with de Bernieres novels, it’s the voice of the characters who drive the tale. The settings of Eltham, Ceylon, India, North Yorkshire and Nazi Germany viewed from an evolving middle England are but a bridge for a gambit of emotions to be played out. Life is here - passion, love, sorrow, fear, confusion, tragedy, joy, worries, regret, and hope in abundance. A delight to read and, in the hands of David Sibley and Avita Jay, a pleasure to listen to. Thoroughly recommended escapism. Loved it.
