Summary
Simon Serrailler has just wrapped up an exhausting and difficult case for SIFT – Special Incident Flying Taskforce – and is on a sabbatical on a Scottish island when he is recalled to Lafferton. Two local prostitutes have vanished and are subsequently found strangled. By the time he gets back, another girl has disappeared. Is this a vendetta against prostitutes by someone with a warped mind? Or a series of killings by an angry punter? But then one of the Cathedral wives goes missing, followed by another young married woman.

I so enjoyed listening to this book
I loved this book. So well written and Steven Pacey's narration is superb. He captures the characters brilliantly in the voices he gives them. I'm looking forward to listening to another in the series.

More than just a crime novel...
Would you consider the audio edition of Shadows in the Street to be better than the print version?
I don't know. I love Steven Pacey's narration and it definitely adds to the enjoyment.
What other book might you compare Shadows in the Street to, and why?
Michael Robotham - "Watching you". It's as insightful and riveting with no easy answers.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Where Simon accepts his new stepmother .
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Who is killing the ladies of the night in a small English town?
Any additional comments?
Just a wonderful read and I would recommend reading this Simon Serrailler series in order although it is not essential. Love the way the story develops with all the human elements and dramas happening while Simon and his force are trying to find a serial killer.

Riveting Read!
You won't be disappointed with this book. I'm quite hard to please and usually plump for Simon Kernick, Mark Billingham and Peter James' type books but this one was great and the storyline is well worth 5 stars.
It kept me guessing right up to the end of the book and the resulting discovery was a total shock and made more so by the revelation of who the murderer was!!!!
You won't be disappointed I'm sure!

bit of deja vue
brilliantly narrated as always by Steven Pacey. writing is crisp, well observed and as competent as always. Trouble with this story is the denouement is identical to one of her previous books - police have no idea who the killer is till he walks into the kitchen of an associate and tries to kill them. Unlikely to the point of laughable but that being said it is a good read. Susan Hill has the excellent technique of making you care and share with the victom's murder and at times I find this quite disturbing.

Another excellent Thriller
Susan Hill writes books that are compulsive listening.
I loved the on going background saga of family life that extens with each book.

Well-written, good story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes - Susan Hill is an excellent writer and the plots are reliably good
Who was your favorite character and why?
I'm not sure - I am definitely not keen on Simon Serailler himself, but I think that is in some ways the author's intention. I always like the characters around him, which is why I keep listening.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Steven Pacey?
I have listened to all the Simon Serailler audio books, so yes. However I don't love how the actor voices female characters as they always sound rather simpering. I realise it's difficult for a male voice to do the opposite sex (and vice versa), but it is rather irritating.

As good as usual
I have read or listened to most of this series and they are all excellent. Even if you actually guess "who did it" which you might, the main point of the book is the story as a story and Hill's sympathetic exploration of the life of prostitutes and also of grief and how you emerge from grief. A good whodunit and an excellent and sensitive story.
