Story
Nick Adams is just a normal guy. He loves his family, appreciates his home, and covets his car. But he absolutely hates his job. Which is what makes it so difficult when not a single customer comes by his store that day. It seems as though there's a bug going around, something that has come out of nowhere and is keeping people at home. Still, it's probably nothing to worry about. People get sick all the time. And besides, things are finally starting to look up. Nick's first customer of the day has just stumbled through the door…

The Scottish Highlands; a sparse, mountainous region some say was carved by the gods themselves. Few places are as untouched as this harsh, prehistoric landscape. It is no place for man. But nestled deep within the wilderness lies a cottage, and behind that cottage is a hill.... When a group of friends travel up from Manchester and hire the cottage for a weekend of boozy fun, they discover a threat far greater than the harsh landscape and unwelcoming weather.

With no policing, and floating in international waters, sexual assaults and passengers ‘disappearing’ are uncommonly frequent.

As a champion longsword fencer, Jack Fischer receives many invitations to tournaments, but none like this: few details, no return address and thousands of dollars in cash that is his to keep whether he accepts or not. He wants nothing to do with it until a multi-national task force recruits him to help bring down the organizers, a society of modern duelists who fight to the death for the gratification of wealthy patrons.
Summary
Police Officer Jack Wardsley's life ended the moment his partner died, stabbed to death by a deranged druggie. Now, years later, Jack is a changed man, with a head full of secrets driving him insane. His recent record of police brutality and a reputation for not following the rules has prompted his seniors to give him an ultimatum: take a few weeks off, relax, and find some way to let go of all the anger - or else find another job.
That's why Jack is about to board the Spirit of Kirkpatrick, a cruise liner built for relaxation and fun. Pretty soon, however, Jack realizes that a little R and R is the last thing he's ever going to get aboard the cursed ship. There's a virus onboard, making people insane and bleeding from the eyes. The whole ship is overrun with blood and death, and there is nowhere to escape. But, just when Jack thinks his number is up and that his life is over, he wakes up. The day is exactly the same. In fact everything is the same. Jack is forced to witness the viral outbreak again and again as it ravages the ship and its passengers over and over, day after day. Jack quickly finds himself trapped in a repeating hell. It isn't be long before Jack realizes that there are others onboard just like him - and some of them know more about the situation then they're letting on.

Dawn of the Dead meets Groundhog Day
Did I enjoy this story? Very much so.
Did I care about the characters? Enough to make the ending of the story matter.
Did I enjoy the performance? Oh yes.
Is there something I would change? I got kind of annoyed at our hero for being so slow in getting what had so blatantly been signposted - figured his career as a detective couldn’t have been very successful; his inability to see the obvious was annoying.
Did that ruin the story? Nope. Blamed the character for his shortcomings and not the author, as it was still a very entertaining story for the duration.
And now I’m off to start the next one in the series ...

GOOD BUT NOT GREAT!
Where does Sea Sick rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Somewhere in the middle...
What other book might you compare Sea Sick to and why?
its a zombie story with a twist!
Have you listened to any of Nigel Patterson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but he is actually really good!
Who was the most memorable character of Sea Sick and why?
Jack! This is his story...
Any additional comments?
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
Jack is on a forced leave from work, he kind of has a melt down and is forced to take a vacation...so he goes on a cruise! Well this is literally the cruise from hell!n Jack finds himself in a time loop, living the same day over and over for 249 days, on a ship where a virus breaks out everyday and people turn into flesh eating zombie creatures...he finds a few others in the same time loop, but both of them are shady characters and when he finds the correct person, that actually has the right info for him..they ends up dead...well ultimately Jack has to figure out how to save the world from this virus..but does he REALLY accomplish this?
Interesting and a good listen!

Groundhogs Day in hell
Great zombie story. it moved at a good pace and had well developed characters. There were a few things that I knew before the story revealed them that were obvious, but it was still a great story. This writer is good at what he does. the narrator was great and if I see anything I want to hear with this particular narrator I will not hesitate to get it.

This is one 'sick' story!
What made the experience of listening to Sea Sick the most enjoyable?
Mr. Patterson is so great to listen to. He has a mastery of dialect and inflection that make it easy to differentiate between characters, even between characters and simple narration. Combine that with the horrifying descriptiveness of Iain Rob Wright, and the story is easy to fall into.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sea Sick?
For me, the most memorable moment was the second day on the ship when Jack wakes up. That's when I knew the story had taken a turn I didn't expect, and really drew me in.
What about Nigel Patterson’s performance did you like?
As I may have mentioned, Patterson's use of inflection, without having to be melodramatic, make him easy to listen to. Combine that with perfectly clear pronunciation and the ability to mimic multi-national dialects, and you have a reader of the highest calibre.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was a moment that moved me in this story, but I can't say what it was without spoiling a major plot point. I'll just say that I would wake up screaming, too, if I had to go through what Jack has.
Any additional comments?
Wright has a way of taking a standard trope, then twisting it, weaving it with another standard trope, and then wringing it out into an original and horrifying and terrifying story, all set within a universe that he has created... and Patterson has a way of speaking that horror and terror.

Sea Sick
Where does Sea Sick rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It ranks pretty high. It kept my interest and was over long before I got tired of the characters. The story is very good but takes a strange twist that I didn't care for about the reason for the time loop. The concept and characters were great and I will gladly try other books by Iain Rob Wright.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sea Sick?
That's a hard question, because this was a time loop story there was a lot of repeating the moments. I like how the main character Jack interacted with Claire the best.
Have you listened to any of Nigel Patterson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was the first time I have listened to a book read by Nigel Patterson. He has a wonderful voice, his characters were fun and not overdone. This is one I will listen to again in the future. I will definitely be looking for more books read by Mr Patterson.
If you could rename Sea Sick, what would you call it?
I like the name Sea Sick and would not change it. Can't think of a better title.
Any additional comments?

odd twist, but the end was predictable
seemed to have periods of a lack of energy by the narrator in parts. the vector for infection I had figured out about 30 minutes into the read. as well as the ending was predictable at the first mention of the contents of the second group of creates. a good story with an odd twist with the reset. thankfully the author kept it moving and not so repetitive that one would lose interest.

Can't ask for better.
Would you consider the audio edition of Sea Sick to be better than the print version?
I only say yes because of Nigel Patterson. He is likely the BEST narrator I have experienced. He provides an experience not a reading. He breathes life into the story.
What did you like best about this story?
It keeps moving, Iain ensures it doesn't snag.
Which scene was your favorite?
Finding the second person with the "common situation" can't say more.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I fell connected to Jack, I wanted him to do whatever he could. I supported him. I stood behind him. I was proud of him. I was truly invested
Any additional comments?
This is only the beginning.
