Story
You're not supposed to want the one who torments you. When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn't prepared for how much of a jerk he'd be. I hated that he took it out on me because he didn't want to be here. I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room. But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

Story
It’s natural to want the one you can’t have. And for as long as I could remember, I’d secretly wanted my brother’s best friend, Jace. He was six years older and always treated me like the sister he never had. Fast forward a decade. We were all in our 20s now. Jace had moved in with my brother, Nathan, and me to help us make ends meet after our parents died. It was just the three of us - an odd family dynamic. Living under our roof, Jace was as bossy and protective as ever. But he certainly didn’t look at me like a sister anymore. That was what made things so complicated.

Story
Finding a good roommate through a classified ad isn’t as easy as it sounds. I was starting to lose hope. Until a knock at my door came, and God answered my prayers. Except...uh...wrong prayer, God. I’d definitely requested the big guy find me a drop-dead gorgeous man on more than one occasion...just not as my roommate. Declan Tate talked me into interviewing him anyway. While he was amusing and charismatic, I wouldn’t have been comfortable living with a man, so I regretfully declined. Then, cupcakes showed up at my door.

The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Well, technically, I’d met him 20 minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut. As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought.... Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano. Number one: He’s obnoxious. Number two: We were enemies more than a decade ago. Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend. I could go on and on, really. When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment, and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents, the grandson turns out to be Troy. Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice - the only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face, in between our many arguments.

I’d never forgotten him - a man I’d yet to meet. Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break. Until one day, it did. Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing. Griffin forgave me, and we were able to rekindle our childhood connection.

Money or love? Which would you choose? You probably just answered the question in your head, thinking it's an easy decision. For me, it's not. Did I mention it's a lot of money? A hell of a lot. I needed to go far away to think it through. As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation. Then, he left. I thought I'd never see him again. But fate had other plans. Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight.

It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress. Something blue. I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old". Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.

The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start. On the first day of orientation, I had an altercation with an infuriating British dude in a campus bathroom. (The ladies’ room was out of order. So, I used the men’s room. Don’t judge.) I got home later that night and realized that the foreign student we were expecting to rent a room in my parents’ house was allergic to our cat. So, the spare room went to someone else: Caleb - the British guy from the men’s room. And so it began...my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?

The one that got away. Every girl has one, right? Mine was a charming, British aristocrat who turned my world upside down one summer. We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod”, and she was “Montana”, but of course those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind. Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape - my sanctuary. Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out. From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed. She was an addiction. At first, we knew nothing about each other’s real identities...and she was adamant that we keep things that way.

The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight -- telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend-smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done.

A perfectly quirky romance
- By LilleyLoohLah on 29-09-17
Summary
From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward comes a new standalone novel.
Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right? Not when it's Justin...the only person I'd ever loved...who now hates me.
When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise. The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago. The same teenager who's now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match. I hadn't seen him in years, and now we're living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house. The worst part? He didn't come alone.
I'd soon realize there's a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all...the boy is still there. So is our connection. The problem is...now that I can't have Justin, I've never wanted him more.
Author's note: RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

Loved
Angst, full on angst. Oooh yes, that would be all the sexual tension. As much as I loved this book, it also frustrated me, I wanted to knock their heads together!! Big time. Best friends from an early age, Justin and Amelia stick together, why not? They have a past entwined with misery and heartache, yet linked to one person, Amelia's Grandma, whom they both love, big time. Yet, years after Amelia apparently abandon's him, following grandma's death Justin and Amelia are forced together. Unfortunately for Amelia though. Justin dies not come alone, he is armed with his super hot girlfriend. Can they get past their differences and become what grandma was also hoping for? Yes, no, I don't know. Just loved the ride. Thank you. Some wonderful characters, fabulous writing and story telling. Highly recommend

4.5 Stars
I picked up this audio version during a re-read of the kindle book after I saw an awesome Nollywood version depicting this story on YouTube, which I loved.
Amelia has been having a pretty horrible time lately, to top it all off she's spending the summer in her newly inherited beach house after a disasterous break up, but theres a snag in the deal. Justin, her estranged childhood bestie has inherited the other half of the house.... and he also shows up with his lovely girlfriend Jade. Awkward roommates they are not as he goes out of his way to make his displeasure at her presence clear. Narration and story is told exclusively from Amelia "Patch"s POV and it would have been nice to get access to the flip of this story and follow Justin's thought process a bit more.. especially during that particular snooping scene.
Amelia is a hot mess who falls for the would-be rockstar housemate.

A Bit Juvenile
I almost couldn't finish this book. For one thing it wasn't very hot, sex or even play didn't happen until really close to the end. And the adversarial roommate idea (you know the reason for the title) was only a small section. Mostly it was a starting a family fantasy featuring the most annoying bad communication and irrational behavior I've read in a while. Not hot, not funny or clever. meh.

Sweet Love Story!
I enjoyed this story, it was very sweet. I love a friends to lovers kinda story. Justin went from Jerk to completely swoon worthy. The writing was great, the story sweet, the sex was hot. I was expecting it to be way dirtier because this author usually is but I still enjoyed the romance & love story. The story went in a direction I didn't see coming but I don't always read the synopsis so maybe that is why.
The narration was good too!

Not erotica
I found this book under the "erotica" section. The sex scenes started 6.5 hours in, and there were only two of them and they didn't even get to do it the first time. The storyline is good if you want just a plain ol chick flick novel.

Good, not great, not bad.
Cute story and had me hooked, but not as good as others. Some parts had me laughing out loud, but others had me wanting to face palm or questioning reality of it. Not too familiar with Ward’s work but like it overall.
The “hate” ends early on, maybe 25% of the way through. Justin’s girlfriend lasted way longer than I expected. There wasn’t any cheating which was good. Loved the last 25%, but the middle was very angsty and a little frustrating, though still good. To those who care about the sex parts, there are about 2.5 and they’re pretty late into the book. It was hot though. I could predict a couple plot points, but that’s fine. Justin is a sexy character for sure. Amelia has a lot of insecurity though which gets old/frustrating, though it’s fairly understandable, to an extent.
Overall enjoyable and worth a credit, but not great enough to make me immediately seek out more from this author. (I have a queue waiting anyway.)
The narrator is fine. First time listening to her. She has a bit of a lisp in the beginning which is fine but a little distracting at first. It got much less noticeable mid-way through. 3.7/5 rating.

Narration ruined it for me
The narrator couldn't seem to decide whose voice she was speaking with half the time, nor did she do even a passable job portraying emotions. I had a hard time finishing the story once I got to the 2nd half and she kept pronouncing Bea like "be-uh". Even after Justin nicknamed her his little bumble bee.
The story itself was a disappointing one from Penelope Ward. Her female characters are usually much stronger and more admirable.
