Story
Fred awoke to find that a snake was watching him and that there was an aeroplane in the trees. It was on fire. Being on fire was a quality it shared with much of the surrounding jungle. After crashing hundreds of miles from civilisation in the Amazon rainforest, Fred, Con, Lila and Max are utterly alone and in grave danger. They have no food, no water and no chance of being rescued. But they are alive, and they have hope. As they negotiate the wild jungle, they begin to find signs that something - someone - has been there before them.

Story
October, 1946. The Red Cross escort a group of child refugees from Europe to England. Among them is Brigitta - a serious, silent figure with worn clothes and a small cardboard suitcase containing a single grey glove. Arriving in London, Brigitta breaks from the group and runs. Brigitta's mission: to reach Summerland Hall and find the one person who can solve a wartime mystery. But Summerland holds secrets and shadows of its own...and perhaps the key to a new life and new beginnings. An extraordinarily rich tale of love, prejudice, truth and forgiveness, inspired by real events.

Enchanting and Exquisite.
I chose this title on a little bit of a whim and therefore was not sure what to expect. I can safely say I have been captivated from start to finish. Rundell's prose is easy, has a gorgeous flow and is full of mischief and wonder.
The characters of Sophie and Charles compliment one another so well and their relationship blossoms as the books progresses and they become more familiar with one another.
Sophie is a charming character with lots of quirks and traits that are not only build a clear image of her in your mind but also help you picture her mannerisms as she moves through life.
This is a wonderful book and I would recommend it to any one. The story is one that keeps you guessing with lots of twists and turns. Rundell's characters are interesting and this book will certainly make you think differently about the world above your head and the world of the Sky Steppers.
Rooftoppers is well worth the download. Gordon Griffin's voice is easy to listen to and I thoroughly enjoyed this title.

An excellent new series
A whimsical action adventure set in London and Paris at the start of the 20th century. It was great, and the author played fair in giving us an ending, while leaving much of the tale for the next book. I'm not sure if it will be a 2 part or a trilogy. If you enjoyed the film or book Hugo, you will probably enjoy this. Sophie is found floating after a shipwreck, aged 1, and adopted by Charles, an eccentric bookish Englishman. While suitable for younger readers, there is plenty to enjoy for adults.
By the time Sophie is 12 the authorities, concerned by her unusual upbringing, are planning to remove her from Charles' care and send her to a school to become more ladylike. So they run away to Paris where Sophie hopes to find her mother, who she remembers is a professional cellist - which is impossible because everyone knows that professional musicians are always men. They're on the run over the rooftops of Paris. Nothing will ever be the same again.

some great lines
The story of Sophie, found floating in a cello case after a ship sank, was endearing and I lived the relationship with Charles, who decided to look after her. I found it a little slow at the start but really enjoyed it after Sophie and Charles got to Paris. Some of Sophies lines were great and the innovative way Katherine Rundell uses description is a joy.

Wonderful - shame about the ending
I loved listening to this book. The relationship between Sophie and her father is described in loving detail. Charles is a wonderful character and Sopie's encounters with the rooftoppers are also very interesting. However, the ending felt rushed to me. The entire story builds up to a resolution which is done in an abrupt way, it almost felt like a cliff hanger. I would be great to have a sequel. The narrator is excellent.

Extraordinary little story
One of those strange little books that could be a children's book could be an adults - it reminded me of reading Ballet Shoes (one of my childhood favourites) to my daughter. Was a lovely listen, with the narration absolutely spot on. Yes the ending was perhaps abrupt (see other reviews) but I think that was probably rather clever. Something else that was a little bit different.
