Summary

Some people just knew how to go out in style. Tim had never been one of those guys.

Tim was always a planner. The plan was to get into college, graduate, and find a well-paying job.

That plan was coming together nicely until he saw a presentation to get paid to play The Etheric Coast. At his graduation ceremony.

After watching the company's employee recruitment video, Big Richie's words had a whole new meaning. He could spend his life going from a cubicle at work to a one-bedroom apartment and back again...or he could take a leap of faith by entering a virtual world of unlimited possibilities. And get paid.

Now he just has to figure out how to get the job of his dreams, help his parents financially, and catch the attention of the girl of his dreams.

It was time for him to catch his wave. Tim sure hoped it didn't kill him first.

A very enjoyable and fun read/listen. Great characters with just the right amount of depth. Nice world building a decent amount of detailing giving just enough to keep you fully engaged.
The narration is flawless.

DON'T BUY THIS! Literally just a worse version of Eric Uglands Bad Guys.

The story is predictable as it effectively mirrors Eric Uglands Bad Guys series. So if you've read that you won't really be surprised by most "twists".

Even the voice actor dislikes this book, keeping a
it professional calm and non-emotional. Not a single emotion from the VO, and honestly, I don't blame him.

The main character Tim is stupid to the point of incompetence, all seemingly in an attempt to cram as many philosophical questions (even when they're really inappropriate storywise) as possible, with the main character repeating himself time and time again. Often looking for the worst way to complete his task, while forgetting half his abilities.

After walking into the worlds most obvious trap, he is late faced with a similar situation where he knows an assassin is lying in ambush. His genius plan? Just enter the room and hope for the best. Luckily for him, said assassin is lethal for about 5 minutes before just standing there, allowing himself to get stabbed while monologing... Every assassination is just the main character saying "this is how we should do it, and we can't get seen" before starting a conversation with their assassination target. Being surprised by things he himself pointed out 10 minutes earlier.

Ofcourse the main character is loved and immediately becomes the clear leader amongst his peers, because.... He is the main character? He has no talent, no brains and no real relationship with the other characters more the middling banter.

I'm assuming the authors are so insular that they've never experienced a real social interaction. Because NOT ONE of the conversations in here are conversations real people would have.

At this point I'm just struggling through trying to finish the book, but damn it's physically painful. I got this book for free, AND I WANT A REFUND!

Whatever you do DON'T BUY THIS.

Great storytelling and amazing world.

The character writing is sublime and just makes the world feel so real, couldn't stop listening and bought the next book on the series a quarter of the way in.

Good but not Great

There were like to obvious mistakes made with the characters abilities (not using them at the crucial part but used them almost every other time or should have used. But I will give the second book a go due to the amazing performance.
