Summary
Real Life Organizing offers clutter-free storage solutions and advice that can help you create a Pinterest-worthy home on a small budget: Learn how to organize your home, simplify life, and have more time for the things you love.
Organizational expert Cassandra "Cas" Aarssen, the guru from YouTube's ClutterBug channel, reveals her tips, tricks, and secrets to a clean and clutter-free home in just 15 minutes a day. Aarssen spends her time organizing other people's homes, teaching college workshops on organization, and creating weekly videos and blog posts. Cas offers DIY Pinterest-type tips to people like you who are interested in how to get rid of clutter and how to organize your home.
Organized person on the outside: The secret to her success? She's a giant mess on the inside, but an organized person who can teach you how to get rid of clutter and organize your home once and for all.
Simplify your life: In her debut, Real Life Organizing, Cas walks you through the steps you can take to create a beautiful, organized, clutter-free, and almost self-cleaning home - a DIY Pinterest home. Simplify your life. You do not have to get rid of all of your things, you do not have to be a yoga-loving minimalist, and you do not have to radically change your lifestyle or personality in order to simplify your life and have an organized home. The truth is that you do not need to actually be an organized person to live like an organized person.
Organize home: Through her years of experience as an industry expert, Cas has uncovered easy and inexpensive tips, tricks, and solutions that allow her to maintain a clean, organized, and functional home with minimal effort. After you've listened to Real Life Organizing, you too will be able to live a more organized life without having to give up your sanity.
In Real Life Organizing, you will learn how to:
- Create a household-management binder
- Make a "kids cupboard" in your kitchen
- Create an in/out system
- Organize paperwork based on your unique style
- Create a kitchen command center
- Organize your holidays with a gift closet
- Build the best toy-organizing system
- And enjoy a DIY Pinterest home

Somewhat useful, but aimed at the wealthy
‘Throw out ten shirts you don’t wear, a bathing suit and three pairs of pyjamas!’ ‘You can always replace stuff!’ - I own two shirts and two pairs of pyjamas. I have no spare swimsuit, and no, if I throw something out I can’t replace it easily.
‘The basement, garage and laundry room are great places to store stuff for six months!’ - If you own a flipping mansion.
Also, the idea of purging everything by throwing it out or donating it, without thinking about it, is unconscionable. OK you might need to at first. But the cycle of acquiring and disposing is what needs to stop. Don’t buy stuff! Half the time donating is just code for dumping your horrible crap on someone else.
There is some good advice in here but it does seem to come from a very narrow viewpoint.

You can’t shame someone into doing something and get a positive result.
Shaming language and snooty performance. “You may have a smelly home and not know it!” Disgusting approach. Gave up.

Good overall
This was the second book of Cas that I have read. Just read the clutter connection, it's better and more help, this one is good but the clutter connection gives you this and more.

Cheesy but helpful tips
Very simple and straightforward tips to get on top of clutter (nothing new really) - but I think maybe the narrator’s voice put me off somewhat. Comes across as a bit cheesy or Pollyanna. I’m guessing it would be useful to give yourself a push to get organised if you’re not in any way there or entirely new to the topic.

Fresh ideas, inspirational, motivational and achievable.
5 stars across the board from me. Loved this book from beginning to end. Fresh ideas, inspirational, motivational and achievable and the narrator is one of the most enjoyable to listen to. Look forward implementing purging ideas and to listening again in the future.

Uncomplicated and helpful
I've followed Cassandra on YouTube for a while now and I love her tips on organizing and decluttering. She will not give you any complicated miracle solutions for your home. She shares simple and easy tips that, rather than striving for perfection, will help you be functional. Bloom where you are planted, as she would put it.
