Summary

Ryan isn’t looking for a relationship with a guy - and Johnny isn’t looking for a relationship at all.

Ryan’s always been attracted to tall, leggy blondes - normally of the female variety. When Johnny catches his eye at a party, Ryan’s interest is piqued even though he’s never been with a guy before. The attraction is mutual, and the amazing night that follows opens Ryan’s eyes to his bisexuality.

Experience has taught Johnny that love hurts. Staying single is safer, and there’s no need for complicated relationships when hooking up is easy. When he moves in next door to Ryan, they’re both interested in picking up where they left off, and it seems like an ideal arrangement: Convenient, mutually satisfying, and with no strings attached.

Despite their best intentions to keep things casual, they develop an emotional connection alongside the physical one. Both begin to want more from the relationship but are afraid to admit it. If they’re going to work things out, they need to start being honest - first with themselves, and then with each other.

Although this audiobook is part of the Housemates series, it has new main characters, a satisfying happy ending, and can be listened to as a standalone.

Beautifully written, expertly narrated romance.

I absolutely loved this ❤️
Beautifully written, expertly narrated story of discovery.
I loved both lead characters straight off the bat, and I was rooting for them all the way through this brilliant story.
As always,Hamish Long has done an excellent job of bringing these characters and their story to life. His accents are spot on.
I love Jay's style of writing and Hamish more than compliments it,with his voice.
This is the first book in the housemates Series that I have either read or listened to and tells Ryan's story.
Attracted to tall, leggy, blonde women,Ryan,is surprised, when the leggy blonde, who he has spotted at a party turns out to be a boy. His attraction is instant, and mutual, and he spends an amazing night with the boy, Discovering his own awakening bisexuality.
Johnny, has learnt, that staying free and single, is safer. Relationships lead to heartache. Hooking up is so much better, with no pesky feelings getting in the way of a good time. His night with Ryan is awesome, and, when he moves in to the house next door to him, they are both keen to continue their hook ups.
Plans have a habit of being turned upside down. Feelings have a habit of creeping up on you. Emotions have a habit of complicating things.
Miscommunication and misunderstandings can destroy everything.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending you dive in and immerse yourself in a beautifully written, expertly narrated romance and find out if Ryan and Johnny can overcome themselves, and gain their happily ever after.

Really enjoyed

one thing that really keeps my interest is characters that are not absolutely perfect. They're human, they make mistakes and I find these characters more relatable. The narrator adds to the depth of the story, his voice is clear and easy to listen to. The Housemates series is highly recommended.

Two young men find their way.

What a delight to read a book which seems to have a handle on real life. There is no instant love but a slow awakening for both Ryan and Johnny. Ryan, in particular, has a lot of growing to do as he transitions into bisexuality. He coudln't have a better partner to give him his first experiences with another man than Johnny. Jay Northcote handles Ryan's first ventures into gay sex sympathetically and adds the little details which are often omitted from m/m novels these days.
Hamish Long is an excellent narrator and I look forward to hearing more of him. He handled the different voices and accents well.
I highly recommend this book.

Great addition to the Housemates series!

I've really enjoyed the Housemates series from Jay Northcote, each offering something different in regards to characters, tropes, relationships and sexuality. There is always a good group of friends that get together and have fun but also offer support when needed.
Pretty in Pink focuses on Ryan who finds himself attracted to Johnny at a houseparty but it's his first experience with a man and he then has to think on his own sexuality. As he's dealing with questions about himself and developing feelings for Johnny, Johnny has been purely a hookup guy since having his heart broken but there's just something about Ryan that he can't get out of his head and they work so well when they are together.
I was really drawn into their story and Jay always gives readers/listeners an entertaining and emotional relationship between two young men. It's fun hearing the friends hanging out together and Johnny and Ryan are often fighting themselves to what they find themselves wanting for the first time.
Hamish is a brilliant narrator. It's not very often that I hear an English voice and it's so good. He has created a lot of different voices for all of the Housemates characters and really brings them all to life. Definitely narration that is easy to love and help you fall into the story.

Great!

I really enjoyed Ryan and Johnny’s story. I’m a big fan of bi-sexual awakening so this was a must for me! Hamish Long did a great job of narrating these two characters and pulling me into the story line. I immediately liked both men and really liked the exploration of Ryan with his bisexual side. I really liked the chemistry between Ryan and Johnny. side. I love when both men don’t want a relationship - even better when they don’t even realize they are having one! Neither was willing to admit they both wanted more than the friends with benefits that had agreed upon. I loved the emotional connection they established. A great all around listen.

A lovely addition to the series

Another fabulous story from Jay and superbly narrated by Hamish Long.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to each of the books in the Housemates series and love the variety of characters that Jay created. His stories always give me the warm fuzzy feels that I crave from M/M romances and this story worked well for me. It was also great to catch glimpses of the other couples in the student houses and see they're still happy and together.

Ryan and Johnny were introduced in the previous book with hints that there was something going on between them, and there’s a sort of recap of their first meeting at the beginning of this story. Ryan explores his bi-curious side by hooking up with Johnny, the gorgeous, leggy, eyeliner-wearing, androgynous blond.

They continue with no-strings hookups once they become neighbours. It’s all about the sex and the moment, so they don’t spend much time talking or really getting to know each other well. We are treated to some super hot scenes—some a little kinky—each time they meet up.

Ryan is still coming to terms with his bisexuality and Johnny is reluctant to risk his heart again after being hurt in the past. They are sexually compatible and their arrangement is convenient for them—except feelings do develop on both sides. It takes time for them to truly admit it to themselves and neither are in a position to tell the other as these feelings grow. Wrongly assuming the other doesn’t want anything more than sex, they are reluctant to be the one to talk about this. Yes, it causes problems and some lovely angst in the story because of their lack of communication, but that happens in real life. Many people keep their thoughts to themselves and just go along with the status quo. I loved the tinge of jealousy Ryan exhibited when he saw Johnny with another guy. I didn’t take it as cheating because they weren’t in an agreed relationship at that point.

The resolution is great and the epilogue gives a lovely happy ending for the couple. I was left wanting more ‘boyfriend’ time and to see them getting to know each other more. I was also hoping for more 'pink’ episodes after the earlier deliciously steamy one.

A highly recommended story. It’s well written, quick-paced, super hot, and with a little angst. Spot-on voices, emotions and pacing from the narrator making it even more enjoyable.

Great story

I really enjoyed this sexual awakening story! The characters were really deep and full of emotion. I liked how unique each character was, even the side characters. The story was fun, emotional, spicy and well written. The narration was good. I liked that the narrator had an English accent, it fit the story well. I didn’t find enough difference between characters at times though, and found it hard to discern whose inner voice I was listening to at times.

Phenomenal

Holy hell I loved this audio book. Hamish did both voices perfectly! I was amazed and impressed. I also fell apart over the story and had to listen in one day.

It kind of surprised me, to be honest, because I don't like mm books with women's underwear, I don't like Gay For You, and I don't like communication issues. That being said, I love Jay Northcote, so I just HAD to listen to this book and I couldn't be happier that I did. This is one to come back to and re-listen to over and over. Such a sweet, honest, hot story.

Great addition to the series

This is another excellent addition to this series. Ryan's journey of sexual discovery is well handled with all the denial and confusion you would expect from a 20/21 year old's bisexual awakening. But of the two Johnny is the one more wary to take steps towards a relationship. There is denial and a typical 20 somethings lack of communication.
An excellent job by Hamish Long bringing the characters to life and keeping all those former couples and current housemates in check.
