Summary
When the ghost of a notorious killer possesses the body of an upper-class youth, London's preeminent medium, Emily Chambers, must exorcise it before the spirit goes on a rampage. As if this isn't distraction enough, she must fight her feelings for brooding ghost Jacob Beaufort, who doesn't like the new man in her life - the handsome and very much alive Theodore Hyde.
With reputations and lives at stake, Emily discovers that navigating the poorest suburbs of London in search of the evil spirit is almost as dangerous as finding her way in a society that thinks freaks like her belong in the circus.

Liked the story
Read a number of CJ Archer's series and loved them. But Emily got on my nerves a bit in this one.

Every ending leaves you wanting more!
These 3 books were my first experience in to the paranormal. I tend to love historical Mystery Romantic books and my goodness this series was jam packed with the lot! Superbly written and narrated beautifully. You kind of guess where it will finish, but I had it the wrong way round, so still a big surprise at the end! Every book was worth every credit and I’m now about to read more from C.J.Archer

great sequel!
as this trilogy takes place in a time forgotten by most, you have to keep in mind what it meant to be a lady back then. otherwise, the ‘violence’ that occurs will have you seething that Emily doesn’t fight back.
in my review of the previous book, i accidentally called Emily, Claire. i guess i was stuck on the book i’d listened to before the last. sorry about that. if anyone reads these reviews anyway

A bit woozy at times
If you could sum up Possession in three words, what would they be?
The story line is great but both of the main characters seem very whiny at times and bit weak. The story would go better if the characters exhibit a bit more bravado.

ok...
To be perfectly honest, I really don't like historical/period stories. The reason why I picked this one up was because of the "medium" story line aspect.
It's likely me more than the book because I prefer strong women both emotionally and in personality. and this era has "proper ladies" social rules etc -

Enter the love rival
This is the unfortunate stage of the romance where Jacob tries to push Emily away for her own good, so in that respect it is a bit frustrating. Also, the baddie in this installment is a super creepy, rapey ghost who keeps possessing Emily's friends which is upsetting. So not my favorite things going on in the book but the series continues to be very good.

Oh the melodrama!!
I enjoy the premise of these books. However this is the second book in this series and habits and patterns are emerging! For instance, ho w many times can Emily have a knife held to her throat? And I’ve lost count of how many times Jacob has declared he will not see Emily again, and they part in a tearful farewell. Their scenes are beginning to tip the extremes of melodrama, to the point of challenging the reader to imagine that people would really speak and act in such a manner. Emily is in danger of sinking into the throes of the emotionally fragile who do not hear what their romantic interest is telling then, and hang on his every expression for signs that she can change his mind. It’s a shame because the premise is good and other characters are equally interesting and deserve some exploration. I’m not sure i can continue to a third book and risk seeing these characters ruined, despite the good story.
