Summary

A stronger sequel and an engaging Gothic Horror
The sequel to the prequel Dollanganger series focuses on the great-grandmother of the Flowers in the Attic saga with more of a Gothic edge. As I stated in my review of "Beneath the Attic", I felt like the hook of the story had only started to appear in the final chapters and "Out of the Attic" enhances that narrative flow.
This book definitely had a stronger plot and Corrine had a more distinctive character development that had more of an emotional impact. As a reader, this book introduced more of the claustrophobic tones of Foxworth - which made the story more engaging with its darker themes. I did have some issues with how little Malcom was portrayed, even as a child he had villainous attitudes and yet it was implied he worshipped his mother and adored her. Little moments like that was a bit disappointing, but Neiderman took time to explore why the protagonist lacked a maternal instinct or bond with her son.
The narrator for the audiobook also did a great job at performing the narration of this novel and she made it highly enjoyable.

Another great book in the series
Nothing will ever top the originals but these are all still great books.
The reader was great too, she really made characters come to life an was not annoying in the slightest

Even expecting the worst...
One can't look to VC Andrews books for historical accuracy, obviously, but whoever is ghostwriting the series right now is phoning it in painfully. It's just so wrong in tone, fact, setting, continually using words and phrases that weren't even extant..... Like, at least try??? Please? We're already reading pure crap, no need to put a face on that, but even a limited working knowledge of society in the 1890s American south would not be a sin. So to speak.

disappointing
This is my least favorite book in the series. It is very boring and it lacks the usual VC Andrews dark and twisted plotline. It touches on the attic but never really explains the questions readers have been wondering about the attic. It talks extensively about the swan room but I still have more questions than answers about that, too.

Worth the listen
I really enjoyed this story, seems the Foxworth name goes even deeper back as if the same story has been on repeat with all the Foxworth men. Looking forward to the next installment coming in June 2020.

boring, boring, borinf
this book was horrible. there was no interaction between the characters. the only character you hear from is the main one. couldn't finish. would rather be stung by bees than listen or read anymore.

Out of the Attic was an excellent story
The narrator was extremely fantastic! The story plot was excellent! It lacked a little bit of the mystery, the other stories had. Overall it was very thrilling and kept me wanting more.

Out of The Attic, thankfully !
So glad I came back and finished the series I started in junior high. Now after all these years to have Corrine's story warms my heart. I am so glad she didn't turn out to be the selfish self-absorbed woman the Foxworth men made her out to be. kuddos to you Corrine Dawson 💕

Ridiculous
This could’ve been sooooo much better. It’s slow paced & boring in others. Why? Just why take the story of the Foxworths and turn it into garbage? Had V.C. Andrews still lived this would’ve been up there with Flowers in the Attic.
Her ghostwriter is LOUSY.
The narrator mediocre at best.
