Summary
Despite her fascination with Jack the Ripper, Detective Constable Lacey Flint has never worked a big case or seen a dead body up close. Until now…As she leaves a south London estate one night, she is horrified to find a woman has been viciously stabbed, right next to Lacey’s car. Thrown headlong into her first murder hunt, Lacey’s quiet life changes overnight. Then Lacey receives a familiar hand-delivered letter, written in red blood, and it is clear the police have a Ripper copycat on their hands. Lacey must be the bait if they are to prevent a second, brutal murder. But can this inexperienced DC outwit a killer whose infamous role model has never been found?

Highly recommended.
As I have visual problems I download LOTS of audiobooks. This is definitely my best listen of the year so far. I was completely gripped by the twists and turns of the plot and thought the reader was excellent! Highly recommended.

Incredibly Good Story
The perfect audiobook - gripping story, well characterised and a satisfying, unexpected ending. If you like your crime grissly and/or have an interest in Jack the Ripper, this is worth 11 hours of your time. Bolton writes like she knows what her readers will expect and is always one step ahead. You'll think you it have it figured out but she's just thrown you off track - her craftmanship and plot organisation is second to none. Have just downloaded the rest of the Lacey Flint series - high praise indeed.

Gripping Scary
I have read previous S.J. Bolton books and they are all gripping. The characters are all interesting and the story flows and develops well and keeps the reader hooked. I found the plot really interesting and did not guess the ending and was quite shocked when finally revealed. I will be reading book 2 of this series in the very near future. I thought the narrative was very good and aided the story. I would highly recommend this book.

A new author to me...
I was recommended the works of this author whom I had not read before. What a great find! The story was full of twists which made it exciting and I was kept riveted and looked forward to each chapter unfolding. I enjoyed it so much that I am now reading the next book about the same characters.

Classic Crimes with a Thrilling Twist!
Any additional comments?
I bought this book in the August deals from the category 'First in a Crime Series' as I do love a good crime story, whether that be in book form or on the television. I tend to prefer a series to standalones as you get to know the main characters a lot better and if you want more, it's already available!
The character of Lacey Flint is an intriguing one. As I got about a third of the way through the book I thought there was something more to her story, only to be proved correct in the end, although not quite in the way I expected! She is a great character - fiesty and in a way, tomboyish yet with a certain vulnerability about her, all of which makes sense when you get to the end of the story.
I was wrong several times in the book, which is great because I love a good twist! For ages I thought that a certain male character was behind it all but it turns out he was just a bit of an arrogant whats-it and actually harmless really. I really didn't expect the ending!
Lisa Coleman is a great narrator. She was really the decider for me purchasing the book in the first place as I know her from her various roles on television so was confident in her acting abilities. Her accents were pretty spot-on, her Scottish accent perhaps not quite as strong but really nothing to complain about.
A truly thrilling read - I will definitely be listening to the next one!

That's how you end a thriller!
Although long and at times gory. The plot is brilliant and the end is certainly cleverly done.

Twists and Turns
Don’t ever leave reviews but this one kept me wanting more. Driving the long way home to get another chapter in. Major twist I didn’t expect. Bought book 2 before I’d finished ready for the drive to work. Perfect for me.
