Mediocre writing, awful reading
This could have been a really interesting book, the subject matter offered lots of scope. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to its title, it's not the ultimate anything, I'm afraid. Regrettably the narration of this book is the worst I have ever heard on Audible, and it completely ruins it. Hesitancy, poor breathing and spacing, emphasis in the wrong places, the sense in many passages that the narrator didn't actually understand what he was reading, all combine to ruin the book completely. That said, it may be better if read rather than listened to, but I certainly wouldn't recommend the audiobook.

good info but not an ultimate beginner's guide
I'll start with the narrator. He seemed very dull and uninterested in the story he was reading. he also mispronounces many names in the story.
as for the author and the actual book it seems like the author did minimal research on the poetic era and pros Edda. which seems crazy to me because he references it so many times but at the end of the day he gives inaccuracies on what happens in these stories mentioned in the poetic etta. good example is Jormungander's death. if the author had actually read the poetic era and did his research before publishing this he would have known that Jormungander kills Thor but Thor also kills it. Baldr and a few other gods are the ones who survive Ragnarok. another example is when he says Skaddi married Odin to get revenge. that her previous marriage had failed with Njord. it clearly says in one of the stories that Odin is the one who quelled Skaddi's bloodthirsty by marrying her to one of the Aesir but her choice could only be made by looking at their feet. she picked the person with the most beautiful feet what she thought was Baldr, but was in fact Njord. the rest is true though that Njord and Skaddi did not get along and she went back to her home.
in regards to the other information that I didn't know about I feel like I need to take it with a grain of salt. there are some American groups that I knew existed but I'm not sure I can trust the author to give me accurate information if he didn't do the actual research of reading the poetic era.

Pedantic and Repetitive
So. much. repetition! Why? And the narrator speaks so pedantically it's exhausting. He mispronounced numerous words as well. Good info but frustrating to listen to.

A must-listen
Most people associate mythology with the Greeks and Romans and know very little about Norse mythology. Learn about the Norse gods and goddesses and their religious beliefs and abstruse magic.

Fabulous
I love the subject matter and the great illustrations. It's a bit longer than it needs to be, but I would recommend it to any Greek/Roman mythology buff.

Great content
The book delves into the different types of Asatru magic, the tools needed for it, and how to practice it on your old man. You learn about Norse paganism in today's world and how you can incorporate Norse magic into everyday life. It also talks about how it falls in this modern age.

Great work.
The book is very informative when it comes to describing what Paganism is. I enjoyed Asatru the book for that. Other books are still helpful and informative. The author and narrator did a great job.
