Story
If Arthur Mallory plays one more steaming pile of garbage disguised as a virtual role-playing game, he might hang up his gaming hat for good. When he discovers the new “deep dive” game Worlds Unbound, he decides it might be worth a try. The magic system has him hooked. He’s willing to overlook the mangled sleep schedule and crippling nightmares if it means feeling that power running through his veins. But when an accident leaves his headset broken, he realizes he might be cut off from the magic - and the game - for good. He’s not going to let that happen.

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Summary
Virtual Dive technology is coming out of the workplace and into homes. Nigmus Online is the first MMO to use this new device. The only caveat to the game: There is no manual. The only instruction the player gets is how to interact with the user interface. That's it. Nobody is going to hold their hand or give out rare items.
Players begin life as a level-zero commoner. It's entirely up to them what class they become.
Explore a world that spans five continents.
Liam is tricked into trying an expensive and innovative online MMO. On his first trip into the game, he stumbles upon a hidden class: the Undead Necromancer. Intrigued by this turn in events, he continues to explore this mysterious world.
In another part of the country, Kathrine (Kat) suffers from a debilitating and paralyzing disease. Taking part in an experimental research could offer her a new lease on life (of a sort).
Even further afield, Russia and China are undergoing a massive spike in suicide rate. What could be causing so many young adults to dire ends?

More of sound booths unacceptable interference
honestly hate sound booth theater they make it impossible to listen to a audio book because of their horrendous editing. their low quality sound effects are every where and are awfull.
And no I cant just not buy their stuff because they offer no other option it's shit like this book or nothing.
I'm starting to think giving up on audiobooks and audible entirely is better than getting excited over a book only to discover its sound booth theater producing it.
dont understand how so many authors hire these guys they do second rate performances and cover it up with even worse sound effects which are lauder than the actually words.
tldr: bad production avoid this ear rape

Good story the editing needs work though
The story was very well written but the volume of the voice acting modulates weirdly for no apparent reason at times, which had me more focused on the shoddy editing than the story itself.

Alright story but bad audio quality
If you are into stories with OP main characters Nigmus Online will likely be in your taste. Though you should be prepared for a narrator that changes volume and intonation many times through the book. Which might be distracting to some.

The Story
The story started off ok, at times you really have no true protagonist. The author fails to take into account that this game would not be as popular do to the perma death if you are not super rich AND if pvp griefers in game could possible HIDE your body to prevent resurrection. Then this started down the Mary and Gary Sue road about mid way through and then went off the freaking rails in the last 2 hours of the book.
If you survived the book until the last 2 hours for the Sand Lord fight and battle for the Keep, you will see blatant Mary and Gary Sue moments. For example Liam being able to raise pets during a raid over and over again, with no cool down. Kat getting rezzed and being buffed after the rez? Some how capturing a base without the 5 days of fighting and without the troops to even hold the said base all while being out numbered 10 to 1? What is laughable during this hole time, they have 1 guy that would be able to rez 1 person every hour at 1000 gold per person. You telling me this 1 guy is totting around Ten's of thousands of gold to rez people? Give me a break, in a real PVP battle that dude would be the first to die in the first hour of battle much less 5 days!

Par for the LitRPG course
I might be spoiled having just listened to Hugo Huesca's Dungeon Lord series, which is far above par for LitRPG-type books, but this one just failed to meet my expectations. The "let's drop chapter 20 into the front of the book as a hook" approach did not work at all. Frankly the writing for that chapter was below even the average for the book, and was a very poor way to start this out. I almost gave up after that chapter, but listened on for lack of another book to listen to. The writing and the story do improve, but even at its best it's just "amateurish". A cut above The Land (not hard), but below some of the better LitRPG series. As others have noted, there's a lack of balance in the "power" of the main characters vs the challenges they face. Nothing ever seems all that tense or hopeless. Those conflicts that do arise are swiftly resolved in the favor of the MCs, and with little in the way of building and relieving suspense. All told, it's probably above-average for LitRPGs, and well below average for fantasy novels in general. All the same, I do like the MCs and the world, and I'm hoping that the author's writing improves in the sequels.
P.S.: The narration was quite good. Annie E. is a favorite of mine, and she performed well here. As did Jeff H. and the others. I think my impressions were just brought down by the quality of the writing.

so I almost gave up on this one after the first few minutes. there is nothing I hate more then the flash forword opening it feels like you dont believe in your story enough to hook the reader so you rely on a cheap gimmick instead. start your story were it starts dont throw this teaser bull at me and think I'm going to like it. other then that it was fine might have rated it higher if not for that opening.

It’s okay, but aimless and dull.
Spoilers may be present in this review.
The storyline to this book started out stable but extremely weak and aimless, toward the middle of the book, a really big thing happens to the MC and instead of exploring that route, the MC just shrugs it off and continues doing what he does.
To me it really felt like the author got bored about writing two stories for the MC and decided to end one abruptly instead of easing out of it.
The whole book honestly just feels like a day by day for the MC with no real “aim” in it,
The author makes the MC to be this not concerned person, but whenever something happens in the book the MC automatically knows exactly how to handle it, for someone who didn’t really display any gaming knowledge before entering the game world, he is suddenly an expert,
In short It really shows that the author got bored of writing details to build characters and instead just threw then in front of you and said “here he is, he can now do this now”
The time jumps in the book aren’t really announced either, so keeping up with how the timeline is going is also really confusing.
And the MC is kinda pathetic, a certain word comes to mind to describe how he is with the main female character but i won’t go into details, but’s it’s a very SIMPle word.

Need more!!!!
Oh my god, this was a fantastic story to listen to. Soundbooth Theater hit the home run with this story. Yes, I know some people won't agree with me or whatever, but that's there opinion. To me, as a reader, this was exactly the kind of story I've been looking for since I started reading Litrpgs. This reminded of some of my favorite anime, mainly Overlord, but it was a nice, unique twist that made this story its own. It was so good in fact, I honestly would love to see this story get its own animation one day, but I digress.
For anyone that wants a really good full-immersion story, this is a most read. The characters were engaging and made you sympathize with them on many levels, made sure you hated the villains, and smiling when they got what they had coming to them. There was enough conflict to keep you wanting to know what was going to happen next, every chapter continued to add more and more to the point I was amazed I was suddenly at the end of it. It was so good and I wish to see more from this.
Thank you for reading this review and I know it helps you. If not...well, why the hell are you still reading?!?!

Okay story, Fantastic performance
Overall the story does a good job of adding to the overall real world that is made up by the author. And by the real world, I mean outside of Nigmus. The story itself can drag on a bit at times but the performances by Annie Ellicott and the rest of the cast are fantastic as always. I would give it a 3.5 because it simply isn't satisfying. The climaxes aren't cathartic and the characters don't really change.

Sound effects ruined the experience
I'll start by saying I only got to Chapter 2, maybe a quarter of the way through said chapter.
The sound effects ruined the book for me. If I wanted to hear someone speaking with noise overlaid I would turn on some modern music.
I come to audiobooks to hear a book read while driving or other such activities that prevent me from sitting down and reading. I enjoy hearing the stories read and letting my imagination fill in the sounds associated with the words, not to have someone reading "classic rock pumping out from the speakers" and hearing said classic rock at the same time.
The last straw was a nails-on-chalkboard like sound. If there was an option for this audiobook to be presented without the sound effects, I may try it again but at this point it feels like a waste of a credit.
