It’s almost a cliche to mention ‘Le Carre’ when talking about modern spy stories but it is fully merited here. The skill of the writing and the twists of the plot are superb as are the very subtle nods towards Le Carre. But is is the themes of loss, betrayal and a forever out of reach redemption that make this such a great book.
The performance is brilliant. No stupid accents just well paced and read with an understanding of the text many the parrots on Audible would do well to emulate. Highly recommended

Fast paced Le Carre type page-turner
One of the things I like about Le Carre is the pace. Its just so slow. These are much more action packed and quick, but quite ingenious and a good listen. If this had been a Le Carre it would have been twice as long. If Len Dieghton three separate books. But I like both and I like this writer. The main character is a really good vehicle and I will read more, but I dont know if he needs to take himself more seriously or whether he is writing for a shorter attention span.
Anyway. Good spy thriller.

In the best traditions
The negative first:
The author needs to do a bit better in handling the many flashbacks
All else is magnificent, especially considering this is a first novel for the author. Story is gripping. Characters, especially Vineyard, the main character are well developed.
The author clearly will be joining the greats of this genre.
The narration is unmatched in the opinion of this listener of over 300 audiobooks
