Summary

If your kid has caught the acting bug and you want to help pave their way to stardom, then keep listening.…

Does your child enjoy performing in front of an audience–be it at family gatherings or at friends’ parties?

Have you lost count of the number of school plays or local theater productions your young one has starred in?

Are people constantly amazed when they watch your kid act out scenes from popular movies like a pro?

You could be the proud parent of the next big child star. Naturally, you’d want to support their dreams and help them put their acting prowess to work.

But first, a reality check: Even if your kid has plenty of talent, finding success in the entertainment industry can be quite challenging.

For one, just think about how stiff the competition is out there–after all, your child is not the only one hoping to be thrust into the spotlight.

In fact, according to HBO’s documentary, Showbiz Kids, over 20,000 child actors audition for roles in Hollywood every year…and a whopping 95 percent of them don’t book a single job.

This is a sad reality that Makeda Tene’ Ekakitie, a “momager” of a successful child actor, knows all too well. Her son, Innocent Onanovie Ekakitie, is, fortunately, part of the 5 percent of young talents who have booked projects left and right with no signs of stopping.

However, her son’s success was not exactly a walk in the park–it took years of hard work, patience, and mistakes-turned-to-learnings before they finally found his rightful place in the industry.

The good news is, your child’s journey to fame does not have to be difficult. Makeda–an actress, writer, and musician herself–has created an in-depth guide to help you make your kid’s acting dream a reality.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Help Your Child be an Actor! Yes, You Can Do It!

If your child has ever expressed a desire to be an actor or performer or Hollywood star, get this book today! It will show you that the idea of your child becoming an actor, which might be an overwhelming or intimidating thought, is not only possible, but could be an amazing adventure for your whole family! And this book will help equip you for the journey, and for your role as a momager or popager.

The author, Makeda Tene´ Ekakitie, is an actor, and narrates the book herself, which brings an authenticity that listeners will delight in. She exudes a contagious joy, enthusiasm, faith, optimism, and sense of adventure. While she acknowledges the real challenges of being a momager, it is clear that she has taken on this role out of love for her son and confidence that he is worth it. Makeda’s positivity and approach to raising her son would be inspirational to any parent, whether their gifting and talents lie in the industry or elsewhere. The following three aspects of the book really stood out.

Perspective - Makeda starts her book with a helpful foundation of what it means to be an actor, help your child pursue their dream of acting. This starts before the how-tos, with the parents’ mindset and a commitment to their mental health and overall well-being, not just future career.

Practical advice - from headshots, to work permits to agents to special bank accounts, this book covers all the subjects you didn’t even know you and your child will need to handle. Make

Personal stories - these really brought the book to life as Makeda shared stories from Innocent’s acting career, and from all that she has learned along the way.

Another aspect of the book I loved was how Makeda shared that even though she couldn’t convince her mom didn’t move their family to Los Angeles so she could become a child actor, her mom did find plenty of ways to support her in creative endeavors and acting opportunities, until she was old enough to move out and get into the industry.

So whether or not your family is able to pack up and move to Los Angeles to get your son or daughter’s acting career started right away, this book will help you understand your child’s dreams and aspirations and support him or her in the way that is best for them and your family.

Absolutely EVERYTHING you need to know!

If your kid has expressed an ambition to become an actor you NEED this audiobook. The author is so knowledgeable and has shared so many great tips and things to do and to avoid. To be honest, without this book I would be completely lost! It goes from how to take their pictures, to how to create the resumé to where to look for castings. It literally explains you every single detail you need to know. I particularly enjoyed the chapter about managers as this is something I knew zero about and now I can say that I know the basis to take the next steps. Thank you!

Awesome!

This was such a handy read/listen! I figured ahead of the stats in the book that the likelihood of stardom in any entertainment industry would be a tough place to get a foothold and keep it. So, it was uplifting to hear the ways to stand out, what skills to employ and how to not burn out. There are no guarantees in show biz so I'm amazed and grateful that she has put this together and so neatly. Looking forward to watching my son's path form before him with the tools he needs and a plan to follow.

Didn't Know I Needed

Neither of my children has expressed wanting to be an actor but they do have moments where they want to be famous or some kind of celebrity. I purchased this book because I wanted to educate them as early as possible about the things required or expected of them if they truly end up attempting to seek fame or glory and this was definitely the educational tool needed to do just that.

Great read

The author did a great job in sharing her knowledge and personal experience. She wrote in a authentic style on what it takes to be a momager by explaining the obstacles you could expect your child to encounter and provide tips on overcoming them. I really liked the chapter on Honest Resume, its so helpful in providing honest advice on how you should expect your resume to be.

So practical!

When your kid wants to be an actor, it's a little scary for the part of you that wants to protect them, and exciting for the other part that wants to see them fulfil their potential. I like that this book helps you get out of those fears and conflicting feelings into actual action. I've learnt things like how to get their headshot, creating a resume and so forth. Thank you for this book.

Impressive and everything you didn't know!

SO incredibly helpful. This audiobook delivers! Every parent helping their child getting into acting needs this book, yesterday. The author and narrator does an amazing job delivering each step and explaining the importance of it. The section on work permits and headshots were the most helpful because I had no idea about any of all that. The section on casting directors and the strategy around auditions, etc was stand-out. Pick up this expert resource for parents of childhood actors and tell others you know about it too. 5 stars!

Should Be Recommended For Anyone

I have almost been considering an acting career. More specifically, I have been contemplating taking acting classes at my local acting school, or taking theater classes at the college not far from me. One thing that I have thought about taking in future possibilities was if and when I get married and have kids, what must I do and how should I respond if they express the same interest in being an actor. After listening to this book, I learned a lot regarding this matter. This book goes over not just the talent itself, but also the proper character one should have, networking, how certain behaviors can effect one in the long run, etc. This book should be recommended for anyone who is dealing with this matter or for future reference.
