Summary

'The whistle blows, and I set off for the one kick I know will stay with me for the rest of my life, maybe even define my life....'

Michael Carrick was the heartbeat of Manchester United. For more than a decade he was the player that made them tick. Loved by his managers, lauded by his fellow professionals, worshipped by the Old Trafford faithful yet regularly misunderstood by the wider public, Carrick was a player like no other.

Intelligent, calm, thoughtful - in many ways the opposite of the archetypal English midfielder - Carrick has always been his own man and is typically forthright. In his book he reveals what it's really like to win relentlessly under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, shows us the hidden secrets of the famous Carrington training ground, invites us to experience the camaraderie and clashes inside the United dressing room and lets us feel what it's like to walk out on the Old Trafford pitch alongside some of the biggest names in the game - from Ronaldo to Scholes to Giggs, Rooney and the rest.

A deeply personal book, Between the Lines reveals for the first time Michael's battles with mental health and his struggles with the national side as well as the redemption he has found with his family and his team.

From growing up in the northeast to winning the Champions League and five Premier League titles with Manchester United, via West Ham and Tottenham, Carrick's story reveals him to be his own man: fearless, thoughtful, intelligent and honest.

All of Michael Carrick's proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Michael Carrick Foundation, dedicated to providing financial support to community services that will give underprivileged children living in the North and North East better opportunities so that they feel safe, valued and inspired.

True club legend!

If you are a supporter of Manchester United this book is for you. You may or may not appreciate the player Michael was for United but he truly embodies what it means to be both a player and a supporter of the club. A true understated club legend and great player.

The book isn’t too much about club drama, more about Michaels personal journey throughout his career. A fantastic read, I hope he does another about coaching sometime down the line.

Wow that was boring 😴

Jesus Michael really is as boring as he looks. Constantly complaining about his life as a footballer.... ok mate, see how you get on in the real world. I'm surprised I managed to listen up to just under an hour left but that was it, I couldn't take any more. He just sounds like a brown nose/managers pet. And as for the cringe football chants 🤦🏻‍♂️ and the narrator was 👎🏻I'm just glad I didn't pay for it

Another Boring Footballer

Was hoping for an insight that even lightly scraped the surface of playing for Man United. Really disappointing. Mr. Carrick loves the club. Everything was amazing. Best part was him describing how mental health affects athletes. Everything was the best ever, amazing, terrible, greatest moment of.....zzzzz.

Great Audible Biography

This is not a book about sensational accusations of he said this, they did that. What this book is a very honest account of a career from a very gifted, level headed player, who has has worked hard at his game and fortunate to play for some of English football’s famous and illustrious clubs. I believe you will learn a lot more about what it’s like to be a professional footballer and a better insight into the person themselves from this book than some of the more famous football biographies available over the last 10 years. I appreciate how shy he can be as a person but I just wish Michael would have done the Audio for all the book.

Dull

A nice man and a great footballer but has no business writing an autobiography.

Worked hard and became a successful footballer. The end.

Interesting if a bit staid

Not a Carrick fan per se but his story is interesting and full. He’s a bit of a robot and awfully serious. Not much chance of drama or excitement here but good on him, a model pro.

Didn't expect mc to be like this, seems like a good guy but would preferred him reading the whole book, worth a listen for united fans
