Summary

Could happiness lie in helping others and being open to accepting help yourself?

Mentors - Russell Brand's follow-up to Sunday Times number one best seller Recovery - describes the benefits of seeking and offering help.

"I have mentors in every area of my life, as a comic, a dad, a recovering drug addict, a spiritual being and as a man who believes that we, as individuals and the great globe itself, are works in progress and that through a chain of mentorship we can improve individually and globally, together.... One of the unexpected advantages my drug addiction granted is that the process of recovery that I practise includes a mentorship tradition. I will encourage you to find mentors of your own and explain how you may better use the ones you already have. Furthermore, I will tell you about my experiences mentoring others and how invaluable that has been on my ongoing journey to self-acceptance and how it has helped me to transform from a bewildered and volatile vagabond to a (mostly) present and (usually) focussed husband and father." (Russell Brand)

Mentors: How to Help and Be Helped describes the impact that a series of significant people have had on the author - from the wayward youths he tried to emulate growing up in Essex, through the first ex-junkie sage, to the people he turns to today to help him be a better father. It explores how we all - consciously and unconsciously - choose guides, mentors and heroes throughout our lives and examines the new perspectives they can bring.

This audiobook includes an exclusive bonus-feature with the author, Russell Brand, who shares his tips on how to establish a successful mentor relationship.

So short...but another great book!

Not as many LOL moments in this book as his last couple, but just as poetic in places. A lot of it is good common sense, and I was hoping he would go more into the process of mentoring and being mentored...more like a Tony Robbins style 1) ask these questions 2) learn which submodalities are being focused on...more NLP-type techniques to mastering or passing on mastery - it's clearly more of an art, than a science (NLP, science, 😂) here. For each of the areas being mentored the focus is always the psychological hole that's being filled more than skills and techniques themselves (unlike The First 20 Hours book), but as a white working class male from Essex, very relatable. Guitar lesson booked for tomorrow morning 😁 looking forward to the next book

Interesting but don't fool yourself.

I thought was interesting but I is a biography. I thought was a book that could help you with advices and value insight from Mentors. Not at all. Something interesting just to know the depended Russel history and what he achieves after he becomes free from drugs and gots some help from two mentors.
It's a book just to read once because doesn't bring something new.

Another excellent book from Russell

As to be expected this is an honest and refreshing book. Just like Recovery there is lots of really helpful advice made more understandable by Russell's own experiences . I believe he is right in his opinion on how valuable having a mentor is as well as using something like the 12 step programme to be honest about ourselves. I love that Russell took time to talk about all his mentor's and what he learns from being with them

Brilliant and Inspiring

Wonderfully narrated by Russell himself. By the end of this book I had a newfound inspiration to let go of my ego and admit to myself some of the mistakes I have made over the last few months and years. This book also served to reignite some of the positive ideals that I once held dear in my past. Ideals such as forgiveness and unconditional love not just for other people but also myself. I have a lot of work to do on myself and for me this book was a healthy reminder of that. Absolutely recommend.

Want to improve in an aspect of life? Seek mentor

Well written and beautifully read by Russell as is most of his work. However, the most informative sections of the book are the final two chapters. A entertaining listen throughout with some useful information at the end.

Not his best, nevertheless it was an entertaining listen.

A delicious and insightful morsel

I have been thinking about the position of mentors in my life a lot in recent months, so I felt instantly attracted to exploring this bom and listening to Russell’s thoughts and experiences.

I found it insightful and inspiring, and easy to absorb. I bought the audio book version as my life is currently nomadic so I aim to remain light in luggage. Generally I prefer a real book where I can feel the tangible pages, but in this case there’s something particularly lovely about hearing it being read in the authors own voice and intonation.

Love everything about this Book

Perfectly narrated by Russell, it was easy to understand it, love the way how a full Rockstar went on a path for a search for a bigger meaning in life. Letting you know his process and applying on a daily life, how you can be a mentor for someone struggling or how to choose your mentors. Overall it's a very good book!
