Summary

The memories of the past may be forgotten, but prophecies linger.

Cinder Shade and his fellow cadets have survived a brutal mission in the vast wilds of the Dagger Mountains. Laying to rest many of their brother warriors, they return to the Third Directorate, battered, bruised, and weary of soul.

But the world turns, and new challenges press. Cinder must set aside his grief, especially when granted a task by Anya Aruyen, the elven princess with whom he shares an inexplicable bond. She urges him to further master his skills as a warrior and become worthy of fighting at her side.

Others have also taken note of Cinder. His name is spoken in the high halls of elven palaces. The empress watches him, wondering at his unmatched abilities. So, too, do the dwarves. They fear Cinder, worrying that he is the embodiment of their darkest prophecies. And in the distant north, shadows gather. They whisper of their fallen god, Shet, dead 3,000 years now. Whispering of his rebirth.

But when the prophecies speak conflicting portents and none can decipher the truth, what path can even a consummate warrior take?

This just got a bit worts

I preordered this book but the terms and constantly adding new elements that add nothing to the story left a very bad taste.

If you are familiar with the Indian culture in detail the. This maybe worth it.

I found it very hard to follow and elves wearing a sari… just made me wanna throw this book at the authors face

Sorry but to be avoided

What was that….. come back… come back

How can you end on that sort of cliffhanger….

The whole story pulls you in from the end of the first chapter all the way through, Even leading you to feel like you were are part of the fraternity…

I really enjoyed the raw expressiveness of the emotional roller coaster in this book of the series, the way the layers of depth to the core characters were slowly exposed was well thought through…

Nicely Written.

Story great

The narrator lets the story down. Mispronunciation is so bad it jerks you out of what would otherwise be an excellent experience

Very good

I sometimes find American narrators a bit grating depending on accent but Mr Podehl is excellent in this. The story is pure progression/secret hero fantasy and I love it. My only criticism is, I wish the author wouldn't endlessly have his main characters endlessly internal monologue just how hot they are for each other but of course can't be with each other because of their socioeconomic status. In the scheme of things it's a minor eye rolling irritance in a book I otherwise loved.

extremely pleased!

The author has balance between everything. You slowly begin to see everything and the slow satisfaction of discovery is perfect.

I'm addicted and this dealer of an author is giving me my hits exactly when I need them.

Not good

This book is awful I’m going to return it.
The first one was bad too but I gave it the benefit of the doubt because the reviews of this book seemed so high. They’re all wrong, this book sucks.

Wonderful... with one caveat.

You cannot go wrong with anything Nick Podehl is narrating. He has been one of my favorite performers for years. Likewise, Davis Ashura is a wonderful writer, with living characters and complex story lines.
Lot's of action, character development and a vibrant world. Ashura also shows, doesn't kill the story by endless descriptive dialogue.
My one gripe, is the romance. I felt like Ashura was hitting me over the head with the endless overly emotive longing for each other. It was so sweet I think I have cavities. No, this is not a harem novel. Ashura is not one of the new breed of incel authors. But it did feel like a mills & boon novel written for teenage girls at points. Just tone it down a bit for book 3.
That is my one and only childish toxic male gripe. Everything else was great.

If you’re into romantic stories

If you’re looking for a action packed story this is not the book for you this book concentrate more on romance which overshadows the story line this story makes the main characters seem very slow and unintelligent about what their feelings are and how to express them

Phenomenal!

Davis Ashura's next installment in the Instrument of Omens series narrated by Nick Podehl was as gripping and compelling to listen to as it was to read. The story line with its many plot twists masterfully scribed by Davis will have you on the edge of your seat throughout and demanding more at the end. Podehl does a fantastic job of in the delivery of this epic. Have a listen, you won't regret; you may even thank me!

A great continuation of the Story

I really enjoy the world Davis Ashura has built and he is doing a fantastic job weaving it all together. This book in particular had such great moments of tension and i felt like i was IN the story.

Infuriating to listen to

This entire book is literally the same characters saying and thinking the same things in different ways over and over again. None of the characters actually have a personality and the story progression is so painfully slow because everything is repeated 100 times and you're beat over the head with every point until you're sick of it. The "romance" in particular is so poorly written and exhausting to listen to because it's just the same dilemma rehashed to death

Captivating

The story just keeps getting better, I love the detail and descriptions. The story is captivating and keeps you on your toes the whole time. The main character is relatable and does not just overdone every obstacle without hard work and strife.
