Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the #1 bestselling author of Hello, is this Planet Earth? and Ask an Astronaut

'What surprised me was how entirely serene I felt. I was weightless, no forces exerting themselves on my body. To my left was the Space Station. Below me, gradually going into shadow, was the Earth. And over my right shoulder was the universe.'

In fascinating and personal detail, and drawing on exclusive diaries and audio recordings from his mission, astronaut Tim Peake takes readers closer than ever before to experience what life in space is really like: the sights, the smells, the fear, the sacrifice, the exhilaration and the deep and abiding wonder of the view.

Warm, inspiring and often funny, Tim also charts his surprising road to becoming an astronaut, from a shy and unassuming boy from Chichester who had a passion for flight, to a young British Army officer, Apache helicopter pilot, flight instructor and test pilot who served around the world. Tim's extensive eighteen-year career in the Army included the command of a platoon of soldiers in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, deployment in Bosnia, and operations in Afghanistan.

Full of life lessons for readers of all ages, Limitless is the story of how ordinary can become extraordinary

Critic reviews

'For someone who has literally been out of this world Tim's an incredibly down to earth guy and I think you'll be amazed at some of the things he has done ... it's so inspiring to know that even going into space didn't change him as much as being a parent did.' JOE WICKS

'Tim is one of our nation's good guys - and his story is a testament to his courage, kindness and a never-give-up spirit.' BEAR GRYLLS

'Fasten your seatbelt for an exhilarating read ... His accounts of blasting into orbit at 25 times the speed of sound and floating, weightless, around the space station are enthralling.' EXPRESS

Not as well read as previous audiobook

I’m a big fan of Tim’s “Ask an Astronaut” audiobook and have listened to it many times, but his narration of this one is lack lustre compared to the previous.

Still okay, but not great.

Not sure why - current world situation? Something changed in the last few years with Tim? Maybe he just read it with less enthusiasm because it’s not as light-hearted? Whatever the case, there’s no doubting he’s one in many millions, an amazing guy (all astronauts are incredible people, of course) but I even had to check it was him narrating it.

Absolutely amazing and fun to listen too

One of the most pleasurable books I’ve ever listen too. Tim Peake makes you feel like your sat with him in the pub with him giving you an individual account of his very interesting and somewhat mischievous life and adventures. Has made my lockdown so much more bearable. Thanks Tim 👍🏻

A thoroughly nice bloke and a thoroughly good book

I couldn't recommend this book enough. It has got me through many hours (14 roughly) of running and offered the perfect distraction.

Much better than I expected

I came here wanting to be an astronaut and fly in Space, and left wanting to be an astronaut flying helicopters in Space.

For a start, an autobiography always feels so much more authentic when it is read by the author themselves, so Tim was already off to a head start in that regard. The book definitely focuses more on the army and helicopters than on Space, but, Tim spent more time in the army and helicopters than in Space as an astronaut, so what else would you expect? While it was the astronaut part that drew me to this book, I found all the other stories equally as interesting and exciting, and, when it finally came, the Space part certainly didn't disappoint.

Tim just comes across as such a nice person, as well as a truly good human being, so it seems only fair that he would become the new face of UK presence in Space. His lobbying and push for increased UK spending and contribution in the industry is quite remarkable, especially to a UK based Space enthusiast like myself.

All in all, I have no doubts that anyone interest in the army, Space, or both would thoroughly enjoy this book. Highly recommend.

Interesting throughout

it's a great listen, many relatable stories particularly if you have an aviation military background. I really enjoyed the honesty of his stories and how his career choices prepared him for the ultimate adventure of space travel. Well done Tim! Arte et Marte!

Brilliant, one of the best books I've 'read'...

Cracking book, even if it was written by a pongo!
Great example and inspiration to youngsters. Just goes to show that hard work and application can overcome any obstacle.

Truly inspiring

What a man! Tim Peake shares his incredible story of his life, love and adventures in such a humble way. It is fascinating to hear what led up to him earning his spot on the mission to the ISS. He’ll no doubt be an inspiration to many young people who will learn that working hard and saying yes to many different opportunities can take you far!

Loved this story of a humble. talented and driven man. I felt that I was actually able to get to know Tim Peak slightly. He has a lovely voice and sounds like the type of person I'd like as a friend. His story is fascinating and magical.
