Lost opportunity

Why on EARTH would you have such a long vocabulary list without adding the gender? Anyone knows who teaches German that it is really best (especially for native English speakers who may not have a strong grasp of the very idea of gendered nouns or even realise this at all) to learn a noun with its associated gender "der" "die" or "das". Terrible omission.

Great !!

I really loved learning German from Central Park. It's a jump-start, no-nonsense way to learn German. Rather than bogging down in verb conjugation like many formal language classes, Central Park starts with the basics. "Ich, Ich kann, Ich kann beginnen." You learn how to say basic things about yourself, order food and drink, get a hotel room, and find directions. Central Park also does a great job of comparing English words with German words, and explaining how German grammar is more similar to King James English grammar than modern English grammar. I have two complaints about this book though: First, you never learn spelling. Speaking German one thing, but as soon as you start to read it, you realize you have mostly no idea to spell anything you just learned. Second, I had a very hard time catching the differences between many similar-sounding words. Central Park and the German lady both used dynamic microphones, so they didn't get the crystal-clear dictation from a condenser microphone, which is critical to people learning a new language. That also added to my spelling frustrations. It was hard to parse when to use den mann vs dem mann, because they sounded exactly the same through the recording. Also trying to learn "excuse me" was a mess - I left thinking "enshoilitten zie? emshoiligen zie?" when the correct word is "entschuldigen sie." I also didn't get a great lesson from the numbers and alphabet, but I've since learned them from children's YouTube videos. EDIT: This book now comes with an accompanying PDF to teach you how to spell. Great!

The pdf file is full of mistakes

I have only listened and read the first 2 stories so far but I am shocked by the number of mistakes in the accompanying pdf file. Now I cannot trust the contents at all which is truly sad. I will give just 2 examples: Schinken means ham, not jam. And Kunst means art, not science.

A very good concept but someone should have error checked the end product.

The most essential tool for learning.

While I have completed a good 30 or so hours of Central Park Language Learning and am deep in the level two area, I still haven't the foggiest on grammar or how to string a series of words together to form a sentence. While it is true I can point at a picture of a green apple and tell you what it is in German, I wasn't able to say, can I have a green apple and so on. Sure I had a step up going into this as a knew a great deal of words I still had no idea how they worked. Central Park Language Learning uses a simple approach that I practice while I run and walk around in my day and for the first time, I can actually speak German. Can I move there today and fit right in. No, but can I say simple sentences that I couldn't before. Yes. Have I been able to form sentences when I wanted to answer someone. Yes. So, overall, to me, there is not a better learning solution than this.

Such an insightful book!

It is adding to my German skills I already had and is so easy to follow. I would like a more advanced course to follow on. I am going through many mental issues and learning languages was one of the things recommended to me when I go to bed at night.

I actually remember everything

The method of this course is excellent! The pace initially seemed too slow, but that proved itself extremely effective. Instead of cramming as much content as possible, the course makes sure everything it teaches sticks in your mind and each and every German word in a sentence is explained, nothing is expected to be taken for granted. It is evident Central Park takes the time and effort to identify where listeners would need more help, and patiently takes the time to drive home the finer points of German. Looking forward to buy the next course when it's available on Audible.

Good introductory material

a smooth and easy introduction to the basics of German. Would be great to have a next level follow-up! It structures how the logic of German language works in plain way. However it does not introduce a lot of new words. If you expect to speak German after this, then you will not be able to do so, however of you expect to learn the logic behind the language this is perfect.

Overall I have found this audiobook helpful.

Really good, ended a bit soon but I would recommend it. it does explain and cover the main basics. Great audiobook, takes a very simplistic and repetitive approach to easily explain complex German Words & Phrases! it gave me a good foundation.
