Summary

Le roman vrai de Nejiko Suwa, jeune virtuose japonaise à qui Joseph Goebbels offre un Stradivarius à Berlin en 1943, au nom du rapprochement entre l'Allemagne nazie et l'Empire du Japon.

Le violon a été spolié à Lazare Braun un musicien juif assasiné par les nazis. Nejiko n'arrive d'abord pas à se servir de l'instrument. Le violon a une âme. Son histoire la hante.

Après-guerre, Félix Sitterlin, le narrateur, musicien de la brigade de musique des Gardiens de la Paix de Paris est chargé par les autorités de la France Libre de reconstituer l'histoire du Stradivarius confisqué.

Il rencontre Nejiko qui lui confie son journal intime.
