Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Lancelot by Giles Kristian.

The legions of Rome are a fading memory. Enemies stalk the fringes of Britain. And Uther Pendragon is dying. Into this fractured and uncertain world the boy is cast, a refugee from fire, murder and betrayal. An outsider whose only companions are a hateful hawk and memories of the lost.

Yet he is gifted, and under the watchful eyes of Merlin and the Lady Nimue he will hone his talents and begin his journey to manhood. He will meet Guinevere, a wild, proud and beautiful girl, herself outcast because of her gift. And he will be dazzled by Arthur, a warrior who carries the hopes of a people like fire in the dark. But these are times of struggle and blood, when even friendship and love seem doomed to fail.

The gods are vanishing beyond the reach of dreams. Treachery and jealousy rule men’s hearts and the fate of Britain itself rests on a sword’s edge.

But the young renegade who left his home in Benoic with just a hunting bird and dreams of revenge is now a lord of war. He is a man loved and hated, admired and feared. A man forsaken but not forgotten. He is Lancelot.

Set in a fifth-century Britain besieged by invading bands of Saxons and Franks, Irish and Picts, Giles Kristian's epic new novel tells - through the warrior's own words - the story of Lancelot, that most celebrated of all King Arthur's knights. It is a story ready to be re-imagined for our times.

What a superbly written Novel

Thorough enjoyed the fresh perspective on such a well known legend, it reads as if the details were a record of reality, such a brilliant plot. The narrator brought every moment to life, and read with just the right level of cadence, passion and expression, and made this book sound like poetry in places. I’ll certainly be looking for other books written by Giles Kristian , and those read by Philip Stevens.
I’m looking forward to more from this author and reader what a magnificent pairing.
Bravo!!

Lancelot at his best

I thought nothing could compete with The Winter King when it comes to the Arthurian Legend but Giles Kristian has proved me wrong

A FABLE RE-ENABLED

An epic retelling of s story, a myth that we all long to be part of. Giles has opened doors for me, to parts of the tale I have never considered. To put so much in to and to reap such an extraordinary story from a character that is usually left on the sidelines looking in, to me suggests that we have a lot more to come from Mr Kristian. A masterpiece and a very high bar to attack for the next novel.

With believable characters. A great story line. It’s a keeper for me to revisit again before his next book. I really enjoyed listening and felt lost when the book finished. Highly recommended

Enthralling

Ansolutely the best, most exciting, enchanting, emotional, elegantly written book i have ever had the pleasure to come across. Both the writing and narration are out of this world. The descriptions are so vivid and insightful that i was immersed and mesmerised from the very beginning. And the narrator brings the story an extra dimension of his own which has been truly wonderful to experience. Thank you, thank you! I shall be working my way through all the other Giles Kristian books now - if they are even half as good as this one, i know i will be in for a treat!

A brilliant read

I really love this book. Giles manages to stay within the Arthurian legends but provides a interesting take on what could’ve been the lives of character so familiar to us all. What I found particularly moving was his narration at the end of the novel. The reasons why he wrote the novel and how evolved over time. Would recommend this book.
