For Asha and Pran, married a matter of months, it means abandoning the family business that Pran has worked so hard to save. Stunning

Masterful, atmospheric, evocative!
Neema Shah has written a novel that tells a story few have heard: one family's experience of the expulsion of the Indians from Uganda by Idi Amin. Neema has a gift for storytelling, and I loved the characterisation, the settings and the food! The narration was brilliantly performed by Aysha Kaia. I'm already looking forward to listening to Neema's next novel.

Powerful moving story about twice migrants
I started this book not knowing what it was about and absolutely loved it. The story focuses on an Asian Ugandan family who get thrown out of Uganda along with all the other Asians and have to settle in England.
It is a beautifully written story about the lives of people who don't seem to be wanted wherever they go but still try to find a home. As a twice migrant myself this book really resonated with me.

Wonderful debut
Wonderful debut. I listened to the audio book and the narration by Aysha Kala is superb. It's a fascinating story. I remember the arrival of Ugandan Asians as a child, and how much Britain benefited. Memorable characters, fabulous structure and a wonderful ending, that might just be a beginning.

What happened after this??
I read this book as I was born in Kenya and I also had relatives from Uganda and they had to leave too.
It would be good if book carried on to tell us what happened to them all.
