Summary

A #1 Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Every time Gwen closed her eyes, she saw him in her nightmares. Now her eyes are open, and he’s not going away.

Gwen Proctor won the battle to save her kids from her ex-husband, serial killer Melvin Royal, and his league of psychotic accomplices. But the war isn’t over. Not since Melvin broke out of prison. Not since she received a chilling text...

You’re not safe anywhere now.

Her refuge at Stillhouse Lake has become a trap. Gwen leaves her children in the protective custody of a fortified, well-armed neighbor. Now, with the help of Sam Cade, brother of one of Melvin’s victims, Gwen is going hunting. She’s learned how from one of the sickest killers alive.

But what she’s up against is beyond anything she feared—a sophisticated and savage mind game calculated to destroy her. As trust beyond her small circle of friends begins to vanish, Gwen has only fury and vengeance to believe in as she closes in on her prey. And sure as the night, one of them will die.

Great sequel!

Gwen Proctor saved her children from the clutches of their father, Melvin Royal a prolific serial killer, but now her ex-husband has escaped from prison. She receives a text telling her she is not safe anywhere now and she knows she can't sit and wait for Melvin to find her. Gwen knows she has to end this once and for all and leaves her children in the protective custody of one of few people she trusts, Gwen goes on the hunt for her ex with Sam Cade, brother of one of Melvin's victims.

I had high expectations after Stillhouse Lake and I wasn't disappointed. Okay, so it wasn't quite as good, but the format was slightly different. The book is told from four different points of view: Gwen's, Lanny's (Gwen's daughter), Connor's (Gwen's son) and Sam Cade's. It took a bit of getting used to switching between characters - and I definitely preferred Gwen's chapters. Though with this format, you get to see the effects that this life is having on the children, which we didn't get in Stillhouse Lake. Lanny just wants to be a normal teenager and Connor is struggling with the fact that his dad is a serial killer.

It is a fast-paced thriller and the tension built throughout the book.

There was more to the book than I expected and it turned into more than a hunt for Melvin - I was surprised at how nasty things got.

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Another thrilling adventure...

Wow, another fantastic story by Rachel Caine! And what a great Narration, it really does change the whole aspect of how I pictured the characters in my mind.

Too stretched out

Not as good as the prequel which I enjoyed much more. This one was too stretched out. The story was ok but there was too much padding and many chapters go by without much happening at all. Not sure I will bother with the next book in the series.

Not as good the first one

Was a bit disappointed with this book. I didn’t like the format where it switched between characters and voices. I didn’t like the children’s voices in this story and found it disturbing. The constant mention of “my kids” is a bit overdone and repetitive.

Exciting

Good, enjoyable and exciting follow up, although I found the narrator reading Gwen's part sounded strangely robotic at times. Otherwise all good.

A true continuation of what came before

I'm not sure Killman Creek can be called a 'sequel' to Stillhouse Lake. It is, but it's so much more than that. You step back in to Gwen Proctor's world seamlessly and pick up almost exactly where you left off. Like the first novel, the plot sometimes feels a bit plodding and not twisty or exciting enough; but this is more than made up for by the characters. All of the narrators bring the already-extremely-likable characters to life; and they're the real reason I kept listening. Because even if what they're going through isn't the most exciting sequence of events, you care about the characters enough to make sure they come out okay. Killman Creek's biggest let-down is that its climactic ending feels... well, anti-climactic.

Anyone who enjoyed the first book will enjoy this one. And, like me, they're likely to keep coming back for more.

Loved it even more than book 1

4.75⭐️The author ups the anti making this one more of an action thriller, it’s still got great psych elements to it.
The narrators are great. Love it kept the narrator from book 1.

I really loved it, bags of interest and a great pace. You’re not sure who to trust, lots of secrets, lies, deceit and deception.
The OTT elements fit well into the more action orientated storyline, I was riveted.
Can’t wait for book3!
Highly recommend it, but listen in order as there’s an over riding story arc

Ok. But not a great sequel

I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book, but it was still ok.
