A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE DIRECTED BY MARTIN SCORSESE STARRING LEONARDO DICAPRIO

From the bestselling author of The Lost City of Z, now a major film starring Charlie Hunnam, Sienna Miller and Robert Pattison, comes a true-life murder story which became one of the FBI’s first major homicide investigations.

In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. After oil was discovered beneath their land, they rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions and sent their children to study in Europe.

Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off. As the death toll climbed, the FBI took up the case. But the bureau badly bungled the investigation. In desperation, its young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White to unravel the mystery. Together with the Osage he and his undercover team began to expose one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history.

incredible story

quite an incredible and sad story. the writer clearly did his research and that makes the book interesting especially in its third and final part. however, in my opinion the story could have been told and written better. it is a matter of taste, but it is written as a journalistic account more than as a novel. also the part on the FBI and the birth of the FBI are not really relevant to the story and not really interesting either.

Who Knew !!

Saw this title on an Audible daily deal so gave it a try and am I glad I did. Murder, greed, deceit and corruption, this has it all and more, and of course the shock that it's all true. A little known piece of history brilliantly brought to life in this masterfully researched and narrated tale. Recommended

Wow

Compelling story gripped from beginning to end what wonderful storytelling. If there’s one book and one book only, you hear this year, make it this one.

A story that'll have people talking like 'serial' or 'making a murderer'

Fantastic book but I didn't enjoy the direction of the read. The first narrator seems to have been produced to sound like she's reading a pulp fiction and although the middle section of the book is written in this style the first section is not. In short the read detracts from what is a brilliantly researched and fascinating non fiction.

The Cruelty of The Greedy

Amazing story of greed, corruption and murder. Almost ignored because Native Americans were the victims

Remarkable book

This book had me gripped from the first page. True life crime written with the pace or a novel. Interesting characters and a fascinating story. Recommended.

Being 70,

Lifelong learning, understanding, observation, experience, re-examination 24/7 365.
I have witnessed the lies and cover-ups of deceitful goings-on in my seventy years and still the institutionalised professional liars and corruption remains but now there is even more money and deception that stretches from the humble innocently ignorant public who follow orders, turn a blind eye and say nothing as the same murderous conscious cognosentient beings remain at large along with their complicit relatives at all levels of institutionalised authority that garner trust and respectability with impunity.
