Summary

"I bet I can untangle you."

At an airport baggage claim, Penny Darling looks up from her knotted mess of earbuds to find the sexiest hunk of man she's ever seen. He's got a military haircut and a scar through his eyebrow, and he's rocking a pastel pink dress shirt like only a real man can. But Penny is on a man-free diet, so she leaves the airport without succumbing to his delicious double entendres...or his dreamy dimples.

PI Russ Macklin can't take his eyes off Penny. As she sashays out of the airport with hips swaying and curls bouncing, he suspects they may share more than just sweltering chemistry. That suitcase she's rolling along behind her? It looks a lot like his. Because it is.

When he tracks her down, he holds her bag hostage in exchange for a date. Their night begins with margaritas and ends in urgent care, and Russ proves that Cosmo's theory about a very particular type of orgasm was oh-so-wrong.

In Penny, Russ finds a small-town sweetheart with a very naughty side. For the first time ever, he's thinking about picket fences. Penny finds in Russ a loving, caring man who understands the power of massaging showerheads. But Russ is only in Port Flamingo for a week. They agree it'll be a fling and nothing more. Because really, they can't fall ass-over-teakettle in love just like that.... Can they?

Spoilers relationship and sex safety

A bit of a spoiler below about relationship safety so don’t expand the review if you don’t want to see.

Recently listened to ‘Shimmy Bang Sparkle’ and ‘Do you feel it too?’ by the same author and really enjoyed them, so decided to get this books which is an earlier release. Wish I didn’t! I have so many problems with this story. First of all, Do you feel it too? is a much better version of this story, down to the quirky pets, instalove, relationship set up, and more - so if you want to give this author a go, choose the other books I mentioned instead. The parrot humour made me laugh a lot in Do you feel it too? but the dog humour wasn’t half as good in this.

A major issue I had was that I didn’t like the hero or the heroine ..pretty major issue.

The hero is very pressurising and gets the heroine to do things she wouldn’t normally do, and put her at risk. That isn’t being masculine and caveman - that’s being domineering, not sexy dominant.

Safe sex?! Really. Why on earth would an author try to romanticise unsafe sex with a complete stranger? The heroine talks about making bad decisions in her thirties with relationships and I can see the trend hasn’t changed. Pressurising someone to ditch condoms in the heat of the moment the first time you have sex, when you don’t know each other at all, and to NOT EVEN MENTION contraception is utterly foolish. At least confirm they’re on the pill or something. Expecting her to trust you when you say you’re clean, you’ve known each other for a matter of hours, but you are also saying you’re not sticking around and just want no strings - how daft is she to not use a condom when he may be doing that everywhere he goes? And CONTRACEPTION!! You can’t get pregnancies to happen or not happen through sheer will alone. Other issues with unrealistic timing too but don’t want to give more spoilers.

It is more than possible to include safe sex conversations in books without it ruining the sexy moment.
