Story
At 27, Anne Elliot is no longer considered young enough for worthy romantic prospects. Eight years earlier, she had been persuaded by her friend Lady Russell to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a handsome naval captain with neither fortune nor rank. What transpires when they encounter each other again is movingly told in Jane Austen's last completed novel. A brilliant satire of vanity and pretension, Persuasion is, above all, a love story tinged with the heartache of missed opportunities.

Story
These three short works show Austen experimenting with a variety of different literary styles, from melodrama to satire, and exploring a range of social classes and settings. The early epistolary novel Lady Susan depicts an unscrupulous coquette toying with the affections of several men. In contrast, The Watsons is a delightful fragment whose spirited heroine, Emma Watson, finds her marriage opportunities limited by poverty and pride....

Story
On the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death, historian Lucy Worsley leads us into the world in which our best-loved novelist lived. This new telling of the story of Jane's life shows us how and why she lived as she did, examining the rooms, spaces and possessions which mattered to her and the way in which home is used in her novels to mean both a place of pleasure and a prison. It wasn't all country houses and ballrooms; in fact her life was often a painful struggle.

disappointing narration
This version of the collected Jane Austen books must have come from the american arm of Audible and would be fine for that market but I found it difficult to listen to Austen's wonderful and subtle prose through a rather lack lustre rendition and many mispronunciations. Persuasion was particularly poor. I recommend another version for narration but don't be put off Austen's work since the writing is sparkling, often hilarious and transcends time and different society's customs brilliantly.

Clear but dull narration
I love Jane Austen but I was disappointed by the flat reading and the occasional mispronunciation: 'tumult' was pronounced as 'tummult' and 'come-at-able' as 'come a table' - surely the reader should have realised that was gibberish? The flatness was particularly noticeable when Austen's characters were discussing the importance of reading aloud expressively, when it became almost comic. I still managed to enjoy the recordings but would have enjoyed them much more if they had been livelier.
