Summary

As London basks beneath the summer sun, a delivery van races across Whitehall and crashes into the gates of Downing Street...detonating a massive bomb and triggering a terrifying war.

Trapped in his fallback bunker below Number Ten, Prime Minister Harry Beecham discovers the unthinkable—a million-strong army is rolling across Europe and airborne shock troops have landed on The Mall. Their target, Harry himself.

Escorted by an elite SAS protection team, Harry must escape the capital before the noose tightens. Sanctuary lies to the west but reaching the secret military facility alive is another matter.

As English cities collapse into chaos and the eye of the storm shifts north, surviving British forces gather along an ancient border, digging in deep as they await the final, bloody battle for survival.

It’s a battle they must win…because the lives of millions depend on it.

Complete and utter rubbish.

I still can't work out why I bothered listening to the end. This has an unbelievable plot and is poorly narrated. Worst book I have listened to on Audible.

Islamophobic: Warning! This review contains spoilers to demonstrate this

I'm amazed that so many positive reviews have been given to this book because, at its heart, it is stunningly Islamophobic.

For his plot to be credible, the author would have us believe that millions of Muslims in European countries are sleeper agents just waiting their chance to betray their country and help Islamic State conduct a ruthless military invasion of the whole of Europe as a Fifth Column of traitors.

By the way, the plot rests on the premise that Islamic State has already conquered the Middle East and Northern Africa to set up a multi-national Caliphate based on Sharia Law.

Also, for the avid racist reader, attitude reinforcement mixed in with political prejudice is stirred into the mix as the cowardly Scottish socialist First Minister and his government flee to London after England is conquered (in a few weeks) to collaborate with the Caliphate to try to stop it from attacking Scotland.

Plotlines panders to the racists among us. For instance, after the initial inaction, it seems that every other European state falls even sooner than brave old England. (Yes, the Caliphate mounts a military land, sea and air invasion of the entire continent of Europe on the same day, aided and abetted by the aforementioned Muslim insiders in the services of every country that had allowed Islamic immigrants through their borders.)

There is one 'good Muslim' (at least up to the point that I gave up at).

How does he demonstrate that he's a good Muslim?

By renouncing his Muslim religion and fleeing by boat to the USA.

Great read

Great story with unusual and thought provoking script brought to life with excellent narration... whilst I could not put it down, my only criticism is that the ending was a little bit weak.

Enjoyable but where's the follow up?

I enjoyed this book and thought when I saw book 2 was published it would be the sequel but instead is just infill for the original book. I'd rather pay twice as much and have a completed series.

Started strong, ended meh...

This book started very strong, with good character development but very quickly faded. Making the Muslims the bad guys with a slimy British politician being baited by a honey trap to gain access to war plans was far too predictable. As the book goes on it seems to lurch from one far fetched plot to another. The narrator was decent though.

Boring and with no twist

Really rubbish story line. The first bit about the invasion is quite gripping but then you realise there are lots of strands of story that go absolutely nowhere. Worst audiobook I have listened to

Interesting and addictive but ultimately disappointingly predictable

A wee bit too jingoistic and quite islamaphobic I’m afraid. Lots of digs at native Muslims as well as European immigration policy which are wholly unjustified. A quite addictive story with a few glaring errors.

Inaccurate and Islamaphobic

Nice idea and premise of having the establishment of a pan Islamic nation and what a war between it and the west would look like.

Very negative about Muslims, most notable being the chapter regarding the french girls trying to escape Paris. Was unnecessary and detracted from the overall tone of the book, which had a positive Muslim character but this was overshadowed by the actions of others within the book

Inaccuracy regarding the military aspect of the narrative. Concept of military being so split out around the country is wrong and unable to return an effective response is misjudged and somewhat baffling. Not sure if the writer is ex-military but much of the jargon and language is not consistent with what is spoken in the military.
