The Series That Shaped My Life

I first read Inheritance years ago when it was first released. Listening back to it now brings back such a deep nostalgia that I know will resonate within me forever. I have no doubt that these books will stay with me for as long as I live and have shaped me to be the person I am today and continue to shape me and my choices.

This reading was entertaining and added characteristics to the books where I might have overlooked. Furthermore it was so gripping that I often found it hard to stop listening. Overall, it was a great listen and one I don't doubt that I shall come back to.

Well spoken

Paolini has brought us a magical world, and Doyle has brought it to life. He has a good speaking voice and gives each of the characters individuality and strength however small their part.

Brilliant Tail of Brilliant Scales

The penultimate part in the FOUR book Trilogy is as bright and shiny as well as as sharp as Safira's scales.

Brilliantly performed and narrated.

The characters live even as some of them perish.

excellent books. I was engrossed throughout all of the books. they were all very good. but this one was definitely my favourite.

Overlong and overpriced.

The author has dragged the story out excruciatingly, and audible has exploited the fact that this is a long- awaited conclusion by charging 2 credits for it instead of the 1 it deserves, are we to start paying credits for half a book?

Inheritance Book 4 - onlty half the story :(

The audio quality is good, pleased to have 'Saphira's' voice back to the lovely growly sound it was in book one . I was enjoying the story keeping me awake whilst driving on a long journey - when the story just cut off mid book, with message saying thank you and hoped I enjoyed audible ..... on contacting the customer services I was told I had only purchased half the book and ti hear the rest of the story I will have to buy part two! - What a swiz ! I have bought many many audio books for my children over the years, on CD and from I tunes- including v long books such as all of the 'Harry Potter ' - bur NEVER Before have I been sold just HALF A BOOK ! ..So Just a warning... lovely story- but if you want too hear both the beginning and end of the story that is written as a single book, you have to buy TWO different audiobooks to get just one book . It would have 5 stars if it wasn't for this issue

Too long and a disappointing end (Spoilers)

To start, the book is written well and the narration is good…but if you read this series you will be disappointed at the end. I got this book to get closure to the other three books I read. But the closure I got, makes you feel hollow, unsatisfied, frustrated and just annoyed! After four books, where the boy and girl are as close and two people can be, the boy does not get the girl and it makes no sense. I can only conclude that Elves do not care for relationships, the way humans do.
Still, so damm annoying the big baddie gets killed the land is safe and nobody hooks up to live happily after. They all just go to sleep alone with their pet dragons! Lame lame lame.
Also the book is too long for the story told and the audacity of splitting the book in two for the sake of getting more money just makes this series reek of corporate filthy greed.

The final book of the four part trilogy 😂

Inheritance is the final book in the inheritance cycle. These books need to be read in order to understand the storyline.

The story itself is really quite good. The pace is great. The book follows Eragon in the final battles he faces to save Alagaësia from Galbatorix’s evil reign, it also follows his cousin Roran as he gains more responsibility and respect in the Varden army.

The performance of Gerard is as good as the last books. I really do like him as a voice actor for this series, though I still don’t think Saphira‘s voice is quite right. The music is still there and annoying as the others but thankfully it is only a little at the start and end.

Chapter 74…. The first 16 or so minutes are repeated so twice you get to hear of the travel along the river, but don’t skip it as it repeats as the last three minutes or so is the actual end of the chapter and of the book!

Again the last 30 mins chapter 75-80 are an exclusive interview between Christopher Paolini and his editor, but to be honest I wasn’t interested in that so onto The Fork, The Witch, and the Worm.

SPOILERS:

After their win in Feinster, the Varden begin moving through the Empire, laying siege to key cities and taking over them.

At Belatona, Saphira is attacked with a Dauthdaert. This is one of the only remaining ones from the elves war with the dragons centuries ago which has the ability to bypass magical wards. Around the time of the Bellatona battle, the werecats form a treaty with the Varden

After Bellatona, Roran is sent to Aroughs where some of the Varden have laid siege to the heavily fortified city but failed to take it. Roran comes up with a very unconventional plan to take the city which works.

Dras-Leona is proving difficult for the Varden to take. Roran returns to the main army, and Joed finds a way into the city. A plan is formed and the story again splits into chapters of Eragon and Roran, each fighting a different way to gain the city.

Unfortunately after their victory, during the camps celebrations, Murtagh and Thorne kidnap Nasuada. As she wished, Eragon is named the new leader of the Varden… but not one to be tied down, when Eragon uncovers a secret that could help them defeat Galbatorix, he leaves the Varden and travels to the rock of Kuthian - as suggested by Solembum in the first book.

During this time, we get to see some of the tortures Nasuada faces from her point of view. After uncovering their true names as well as the secret, Eragon and Saphira return to the Varden who are now just outside the gates of Urû’baen.

Eragon tells the leaders of the Varden the plan of attack and the next five hours of the audiobook flip between Eragon and Roran giving you a great insight into the battle from two fronts.

After the battle… well I’ll let you find out what happens in the last four plus hours of the book!

Read the book years ago, great to revisit

Loved it great story. Bought and read the book on its release date and couldn't put it down. Now over 10 years later enjoyed it just as much again.

Fantastically read.
