When a hacker falls into his hands and reveals details of a secret meeting, Boot conceives a plan to strike back - with a bomb that will seriously damage the Russian operation. Boot turns to Merc, an ex-soldier fighting in Iraq and a gun-for-hire, to deliver the explosives into Russia and bring the hacker back. But things do not go to plan, and his mission becomes near impossible. The scene is set for a classic story of pursuit, evasion and a battle for survival.

Ryan Wilkins grew up on a trailer park, a member of what many people would call the criminal classes. As a young Detective Inspector, he's lost none of his disgust with privileged elites - or his objectionable manners. But he notices things; they stick to his eyes. His professional partner, DI Ray Wilkins, of affluent Nigerian London heritage, is an impeccably groomed, smooth-talking graduate of Balliol College, Oxford. You wouldn't think they would get on. They don't. But when a young woman is found strangled at Barnabas Hall, they're forced to.

Talented narrator, enjoyable yarn
- By Summer read on 29-01-22
Summary
Liverpool: a suburban crime family grips a whole city with fear.
And their ambition reaches further still.
Galicia: an entire community waits on the windswept edge of Europe for the delivery of four tonnes of cocaine, brought across the ocean in an almost unbelievable craft.
London: Jonas Merrick, grey and quiet, alone in a small office, seems an unlikely character to be tasked with bringing down an international drug network.
But while Jonas's colleagues regard him as scratchy, fastidious, old, he is also ruthless, cunning and brutally pragmatic. And he has a man on the inside: a would-be money-launderer on that wild Spanish coast. A man who has been undercover for so long, he has almost forgotten who he really is.
And he is due to come home. Has to. For he will be given no mercy if he is caught.
But Jonas needs him to stay.
The superb Jonas Merrick is fast becoming one of the great figures of British spy fiction. In At The Kill may be his most compelling story yet.

Epic, Beautiful and sensual yet cruel and nasty.
I came to G Seymour late in the day. I am now though ploughing my way through his life work. If only there were more serial novels like these. The detail is beyond everything. Ive met some great people in Seymours books and longed for more of them, but it's the spareness and loss at the end that makes the experience so human. There is no more. That hurts.
The only similarity to Smiley is a hat and age. The rest is non transferable.
Ben Allen is so relaxed with these Merick books. So connected. His women are all terrifying. He does women so very well. Faultless acting and narration.
International locations and characters. As taught as a drum. Kenny is wonderful and Ben Allen gets him spot on when he is fighting for his life.
Buy these. Glorious.
