Summary

He's mine.... Don't ever forget that.

Milo lives in the barn, a cowboy through and through.

I live in a castle, but I'm not a princess.

When the only person who loves me dies, Milo's there.

As I get older, I no longer look at Milo like a big brother. I look at him like the man God made just for me.

With the first glimpse of freedom from my pathetic excuse for a father, I imagine a future with Milo. I dream of the day when we won't have to hide our feelings.

But Milo has a secret. He is not free.

The man I love is marrying the woman I hate.

Wow, I didn't expect to love this book that much!

ᴊᴇᴡᴇʟ ᴇ.  ᴀɴɴ - ɪꜰ ᴛʜɪꜱ ɪꜱ ʟᴏᴠᴇ
ᴀᴜᴅɪᴏʙᴏᴏᴋ ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ

Indiana Ellington lost her adoptive mother, Ruthie, at the age of 10. The day they buried her was the day she went from Ruthie's little fairy to the disciplined prisoner of her father, Fletcher.
The only bright spot in her life was Milo Omer Odel.
Everyone saw them as brothers, but Indie saw him as her guardian angel, her first love.

It's not a light and sweet love story, it's a heartbreaking love story of two souls who met at the wrong time and in the wrong place, but still fight to survive and raise their heads above the water because they see in each other symbol of hope 🥹🫂❤️

I admit, it took me a few chapters to connect with Indie, I even rushed to judge her, I thought she was a spoiled girl, but as the years passed I found myself taking back everything I thought. More and more pieces exposed - what she went through, her wars, her strengths, her courage.

So many quotes that crushed me, made my heart beat and turned me into a puddle, moments when I fell apart and then I found myself whole again, I felt how hope escapes and returns to me in waves throughout the book. This book brought out a lot of emotions for me.
Cruelty but there is also hope, loss and yet not completely alone, trauma but there's also healing. this is by far one of a specials novels I read this year.

Another confession - I've tried Jewel books in the past but I didn't connect, after massive recommendations in a romance group chat I'm in, I said to myself "come on, don't check the synopsis, don't ask what's the book about, buy it and just start it".
I didn't know that Jewel's writing would sweep me away, I received more recommendations of her books, and I hope to come back again and recommend further and fall in love like I did with this book 🙏🏻❤️

Angsty and Emotional Listen

3.5 stars

If this is Love was a compelling story. It’s super angsty and loaded with drama, family secrets, and lies. Small age gap 8 years, cowboy, love triangle, and a second chance you’ll want to hold on tight for this wild ride!

Indie and Milo had a love that grew from a friendship with Milo being Indie’s support after losing her mom at a young age. They had a undeniable connection but had many hurdles in their way. Once the attraction was open between them they were constantly being torn apart and forced into doing what others wanted. My heart did break for them and the love and passion they couldn’t chase after but at the same time I wanted them to fight and stand up more to Fletcher and others. The ending wrapped up very quickly and we didn’t get to experience much of them being together etc and just wasn’t left with a fully satisfied listen with the ending.

This was my first book by this author and I will try out some other books as I’m usually a lover of angsty romance! Overall - this was a good book with intriguing characters- it was just missing something.

Narrators Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige made this an enjoyable listen. They really did a great job with having me feel the deep emotions of these characters.

Wonderful Story

If This Is Love by Jewel E. Ann is a cowboy/western, forbidden, age-gap, coming-of-age, slow burn that will pull at your heartstrings and leave you in awe of Indie and Milo’s journey.

When Indiana “Indie” Ellington is ten years old, she loses her mother, leaving her father, Fletcher, in despair. Milo Odell is barely an adult at eighteen, but since he’s her dad’s right-hand man, he steps in and helps care for Indie. He is an adult figure at a time when Indie had no one to turn to for comfort while she grieved. Milo has always viewed Indie as a little sister, and he’s also often referred to as Indie’s big brother. However, as time progresses and they grow up together, Indie begins to see Milo differently and has feelings for him.

Milo and Indie don’t have a straight or easy path to happiness. Fletcher has plans for Milo to marry his niece Jolene, the heir to the family ranch and the one woman Indie loathes.

This was the first time I’ve listened to Meg Sylvan narrate; she was phenomenal! She gave Indie a distinct voice as Indie aged from ten to eighteen. She captured my attention with the authenticity of her narration. She captured Indie’s ten-year-old curiosity and her sassy, “Lolita” like attitude. There were several times I rewound to hear her reread a line. She was sublime. In addition, Tim Paige did an excellent job narrating Milo as he struggles with his wants and desires vs. duty.

Overall, I couldn’t get enough of If This Is Love. There’s action wrapped around heartache and several twists that will leave you gasping. Don’t forget to have tissue nearby.

Not bad for a Cowboy story lol

So this author’s books is always a hit or miss for me. This one… I cant decide… Don’t read a lot of cowboy romances, but this one wasn’t too bad. I did the audio version and I loved the narrators. They definitely delivered a good performance.

Indiana was raised on a ranch in a mansion. She always felt like she didn’t belong and then her whole world blows up. Now she feels even more alone and lost, the only thing that brings her joy is Milo Odell. He becomes her whole world. The one she can rely on and her protector and her confidant. And now those feelings has turned into something so much more. But the man she wants and loves is promised to someone else…Is it time to walk away or will she fight for her man…

So not that clued up on Cowboy romances, but this one had so much angst and chemistry and love and family, friendship and the narrators definitely made me invested in this story 😊

A gripping forbidden, age gap romance!

4.25/5 stars

I had a such a good (albeit stressful) time listening to this book! The audio and the story gripped me right from the start and I really enjoyed how it had duel narration. The narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life.

This was a romance filled with angst, tension, high stakes and forbidden pining. It's raw, it's emotional, it's beautiful and even taboo. If you like forbidden romance, age gaps, taboo romance, then this is for you.

Jewel E Ann really delivered on the hot, sexy cowboy working on a Texas ranch... Milo was everything! His story with Indie had me screaming and crying out in frustration. There is so much keeping them apart but despite all the obstacles, they always found their way back to each other... it was beautiful! Also the spice was immaculate 🌶🌶🌶

There are some themes in this that might make some people uncomfortable so be aware when going into this. Milo was in Indie's life since she was a child, however nothing romantic happens until she's 18. Also be aware that there is cheating in this as well.

While the ending felt a little rushed, I did enjoy the book as a whole and would definitely recommend it!

I like Jewel E. Ann's writing. This is a beautiful story. Indiana/Indie and Milo's story is heartbreaking, complex, full of angst, mystery, and twists and turns. They are both great characters. I loved Indiana. She is strong, smart, and determined. Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige did a good job bringing this story to life. I loved Sylvan's interpretation as Indie. She perfectly portrayed this amazing character. I enjoyed it.

Wild Ride!

Story: 3.5 ⭐️
Steam: 5 🔥
Audio: 5 🎧

I liked this story. I was a bit worried in the beginning with their age gap. I don’t mind age gaps but we start the heroine is 10 and the hero is 18. Luckily nothing happens until she is 18 but I do think there could have been more of a transition time between the platonic relationship and the romantic one. It felt very rushed. I think when a book is this long, rushing feels unnecessary.

Overall it was a wild ride.

Get ready for the feels!

What is it about Jewel E Ann that draws me to her? It's her originality. Every book I have listened to of hers has so many elements to it that pull me in, have me investing my heart in every scene. I fall in love, my heart breaks, I shake my head in total astonishment and then she slowly puts it all back together. This book is no exception. Indie's acquisition should have been a happy time, but Fletcher did not like her. When his wife died, he made sure she was sent away, but always had his invisible hand on her back. Milo lived on Fletcher's ranch, did whatever he was told and he too was an acquisition of sorts. A little older than Indie, the two had a close relationship, even when apart. And now things are heating up. Milo has a duty to perform, Indie wants to disappear, and Fletcher still holds all the strings. What will become of this dysfunctional family of sorts you ask? Jewel E Ann masterfully ties each thread together, gives us heart tugging surprises, cringe worthy actions and a love that stands all the tests it goes through. I could not stop listening to this, and as always will be anxiously waiting for the next book to come out!

Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige are our storytellers, and they bring it all out! I absolutely loved Sylvan's portrayal of Indie. Stubborn, independent, strong and full of fiery passion, she made every scene alive with emotions. Paige enters as Milo, giving us the frustration, dislike and explosive chemistry he has.Just the right amount of angst and feelings, these two know how to drive this book and make it amazing.

Exceptional Story & Listen🎧 Gripping & Emotional!

Wow, this book blew me away like no other, the writing is superb, the characters and storylines are amazing and unlike any I know, so I have to give kudos for originality too. I went into the book only knowing Jewel D. Ann wrote it, which was enough for me, regardless, I am glad I did, this is one of those stories you wish you could start over again, and again, as if it was new to you. The story drew me in like a moth to a flame, not only captivated my attention but tugging on my heartstrings the entire time, too. Indiana “Indie” Ellington was adopted, well there is more to that story too, but let’s go with that. Her adopted mother, Ruthie, adored her from the moment husband, Fletcher, brought her home. She always wanted to be a mom, and he made it possible. Fletcher is a cutthroat and ruthless businessman, and he was never fond of Indiana, so when his wife dies he pushes her off onto Milo Odell, his lead ranch man who lives in the barn next to the house. Some may say that Fletcher did not want to see Indiana because she reminded her how much Ruthie loved her, but there was so much more to it, heck there was so much more the Fletcher overall. I do not think there was a character I despised more than Fletcher, though his niece Jolene comes pretty close. Milo is the one that makes Indie’s life bearable on the ranch, he was eight years older than her and like her protective big brother to her. But she had a huge crush on him and we watch this crush morph into more as she gets older. Milo had feelings for her but not inappropriate ones, well, not until she got older. Then the ever controlling Fletcher makes his plans for Milo known, an arranged marriage, and it is not to Indie, so this breaks her heart and we watch her dwell on this. What does Fletcher have on Milo? Why does Fletcher hate Indie? While this book is not about Fletcher, the man holds all the power, making them all puppets. Indie may not be a puppet but he still pulls strings that affect her life. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a cleverly plotted story with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns that will blow your minds, heartfelt emotions and a romance and love that was meant to be and years in the making. Jewel E. Ann, thank you for this exceptional story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧And for the amazing narration, Jewel E. Ann cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige are wonderfully talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that suited that character’s persona and was believable in every role they played. Sylvan played Indie’s role with perfection, grasping all sides of her personality, from her yearning, her snark and her determination. Paige nailed it as Milo, he too grasped all side of his personality, from his swoon worthy and sweet side to his hot headed and over protective side. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance, making you feel every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhances this already amazing story to another level. Thank you for this exceptional listen.

If this is love

Such a beautiful story!!!

I love that we don't get to know Milo's past til late into the story. So you always think: what happened? I wanna know! I need to know!

Jewel E. Anns books are different and I enjoy them a lot.
This story is not a typical cowboy story - it's heartbreaking, forbidden, cruel - but of course s3xy too :)

Of course it’s good

If you don’t already know, anything from Jewel E Ann is a gift. The story is captivating, and it brought me out of my book slump. Nice southwestern story similar to “Yellowstone” culture. Just enough darkness and shadiness to keep it interesting, but the story was sweet. Very well balanced. There was a lot of angst that I didn’t anticipate. The voice actors were great. It took me a little bit to get used to the male voice’s fast pace, but it grew on me.

Did I love or hate this story?

If This is Love by Jewel E. Ann is probably one of the angsty, emotional, difficult-to-get-through audiobooks I have listened to in ages! I’m days out from finishing this audio but I’m still not sure if I liked it, hated it, or am just glad it’s over. Ann left me with so many feels. In the end, I feel like that is what a good book does. It leaves you thinking and feeling, possibly even reeling like If This is Love did. Indie and Milo are the main characters. Indie has had a rough life from day one. When the only person that has ever shown her love, dies. Indie is left with a father that barely knows her and doesn’t seem to care about her or her grief because he’s drowning in his own grief and whiskey. Milo wasn’t even 20 when he had this young girl basically placed in his care. As she grew, and was sent to boarding school, she changed and grew up a bit harder. Milo still tried to be there and care for her but things were changing between them. She’s always liked him but now she’s looking at him with a young woman’s eye and she liked what she saw. Milo might like what he sees too but she’s too young, he works for her dad, and he’s basically betrothed to another woman, Jolene. Plus, there’s that whole thing where he basically took care of her for a handful of years.

I’m gonna leave that there. This story tore me apart. Things happened here that I wish had never happened. There were some completely horrible characters. I’ll be real, I’m not even sure I liked Indie through most of this story. I did feel for her though. Milo, well Milo, I wanted to smack upside the head sometimes and tell him how stupid he was. The “dad”, well I wanted to take him out to his barn and whip the crap right out of him until he started thinking with his darn brain. I hated so much of what happened in this story. However, I feel like life is like that. We don’t always get to check off what we want and don’t want to happen in our lives. It’s all up in the air, up to God, or fate or whatever you believe in. Jewel E. Ann takes us on another story that isn’t for the faint of heart. She plays and pulls on our hearts. She’s definitely an author that gives us flawed characters with questionable backgrounds. She’s completely true to her way of writing. Ann is an incredibly unique author. I applaud her creativity and ability to see the world as it can be, cruel.

The narrators, Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige, seriously brought this story to life. Sylvan was able to really get into the mindset of Indie and bring out all of those feelings. When Indie was completely wrecked, I felt it; when she was livid and wanted to go to war, I was in her corner. Meg Sylvan really brought the character and story to life. Tim Paige was an excellent Milo. For the most part, we don’t get into Milo’s head. Occasionally, Indie backs him into a corner and he explodes with emotion. Paige did a fabulous job at really expressing those feelings. Indie drove him half mad. It’s definitely felt throughout the audiobook. Fabulous job to both narrators!!

forbidden cowboy

Jewel E. Ann never ceases to amaze me with her story telling abilities. She writes so uniquely and in a way that lets the reader/listener really capture and envision the world she’s created. I was swept away by a world filled with cowboys, corruption, and forbidden romance. While a couple of aspects in this story weren’t my cup of tea, this is a personal preference, and takes nothing away from the amazing storyline here. It may have Yellowstone vibes to it, but it is definitely unique and fascinating. You will feel all the emotions throughout this story. Every one of them. Jewel does what she does best – rip your heart out, kick it around a bit, and stitch it back up before returning it to you.
Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige were perfectly cast for their roles. Their timing, pitch, pace, and tones were exemplary. It was clear that Meg and Tim really put their heart and soul into this performance. They perfectly embodied Milo and Indie. I especially love how well Meg was able to transition from young Indie to grown up Indie. I can’t say enough good things about how outstanding this performance was. There is so much emotion and heartache in this story, and it needed the perfect narrators to portray all the emotions within. That’s exactly what we got and more. I highly recommend the audio version of this story.

Such an emotionally charged, angsty and amazing love story

If this is Love is a angsty, emotional, age gap, forbidden, close proximity, cowboy story that will have you feeling like you are on a roller coaster ride. This book and audio had my heart in my hand the whole time. The heartbreak, lies, deception and disconnect that Indie experiences with her family had my heart breaking for her and honestly had me wanting to throw my kindle, and phone. Haha. But, Milo for very early on comes to the rescue but he doesn’t leave unscathed. His family secrets, hidden truths, blackmail, and an arranged marriage leave him at the mercy of a man who only harms and manipulates him a lot of his adult life. Through the hurt and pain these two have more in common than not. This is a love story that will totally take over and consume you. This emotionally charged, complex plotted story had so many twist and turns. Through all the pain and hurdles they had to cross they are finally headed for brighter days. The Narrators Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige just had a way of drawing you in. The changes in characterizations were excellent. Amazing read and listen.

I was terrified the whole time... in a good way!

If I can say one thing about Jewel E. Ann consistently, it's that she PUTS HER READERS THROUGHHHH IT!
I am someone who feels audiobooks with her whole soul, especially when there are good narrators like this audiobook had. I was constantly losing my marbles at something happening in the book and I just wanted to scream at them all! No. Seriously. My rants in my instagram stories were phenomenal if I do say so myself.
One thing I like a lot about this book was Indi. She was never afraid to go after what she wanted. Her dad was absolutely terrible and her "family" had me wanting to shave my head and go full B. Spears... but she was constantly doing her, even when it was hurting her to do so.
Milo... his story shook me to the core. That's really all I can say without giving any spoilers, but I just wanna squeeze him and give him all my love.
I end this by saying, Jewel E. Ann... THANK YOU for granting us small mercies and not leaving us on a cliffhanger and making this a duet, because I'm not sure I would have survived.

Angst...with more Angst

Jewel E Ann said it best in her newsletter a 💩 show, prepare for angst. I don't think I could have mentally prepared for the journey this took me on. I listened to the audio....and let me tell you Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige brought so much passion to the story with their performance...I felt every emotion deep in my soul.

You are introduced to Indie, the "black sheep" of her family...but she has always had Milo, the family's ranch hand to look out for her and make her feel special. He is 8 years older than her....but she starts to notice him in a very different way compared to brotherly and it only continues to grow and evolve. Fast forward to her 18th year and they can't fight the attraction anymore...but Milo is engaged to another woman and their time is limited....so they make the most of it.

I think it's important you know that you should buckle up....because nothing is simple or what you expect it to be. Jewel rips your heart out, slowly puts it back together and then rips it out again and slowly....oh so slowly puts the pieces back in place.

This audio was dual POV meaning Tim and Meg got to embrace and perform so many different characters...I absolutely adored the accents.

I tried to explain how this book made me feel to my husband and I don't think I could do it justice. The best way to fully understand is to dive right in!

This listen put my heart through it all!💗

4.25 Stars!

Whenever Ms.Ann announces something new I always get so happy. I've been meaning to get into more of her audiobooks and when I found out If This Is Love was heading to audio I knew I had to pick it up. I started listening to it and got right into this audiobook. I really enjoyed it so much!

Having listened to both Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige's narration before I was so glad that these two were narrating If This Is Love! Both Meg and Tim pulled my heart and I in with their narration! These two captured the longing, the heartbreak, the pain, the unexpected, the love, and every bit in between with their narration.

Indiana AKA Indie and Milo's journey hooked my heart and I quickly! You can't help who your heart falls for, which Indie and Milo know all too well. With so much between them, can Indie and Milo find a way to be together? Or were they doomed from the start?

Oh my heart! Indie and Milo's journey put me through it all and then some! Theirs is far from an easy journey, but oh what a memorable one it is. I went through such a range of emotions with Indie and Milo. I love whenever two characters can drag so much out of me from not only my heart, but my soul as well like Milo and Indie did.

I didn't know how everything would unfold throughout this listen which had me even more glued to my earbuds. The chemistry and connection that Indie and Milo shared was so great and got to me in many ways. I could picture it all clearly. From the setting to the characters all the way to the writing and narration, I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook!

With If This Is Love, Ms.Ann has created such a unique story that brought every single bit of feels and that stays on the mind long after finishing! I can always count on her words to hit right in the chest and leave their mark. I didn't want to turn away from this audiobook because I had to know what all was going to happen and because it was so addictive.

This is an unforgettable listen! I can't wait to dive into more of Ms.Ann's audiobooks and to more of Meg and Tim's narration. 💗

This IS love

If This Is Love is quintessential Jewel E. Ann. In the same tones of the Naked Fisherman series, this books is like Yellowstone, Dallas and Dynasty had a baby! You get all the grandeur of the powerful family and all the seediness that comes with it all.
You know things are going to be bumpy when you realize that Indiana was literally bought by to the patriarch, Fletcher Ellington, as a “gift” for his wife whom he adored and couldn’t have children. She learned at the tender age of four that, although Ruthie tends to her like a true daughter and loves her deeply, she doesn’t really “belong”.
Ruthie dies when Indiana is 8 year old and Fletcher spirals into grief and resents Indy. He couldn’t care less for the little girl. That’s when Milo Odell steps in. He’s Fletcher’s “ward” even though he’s 18. He’s sort of a ranch hand and Fletcher has a strong hold over him that we are initially unaware of. He gives Indy the attention she craves. The only love she gets is from her “aunt” and “grandmother” on Ruthie’s side. He becomes sort of a big brother figure (but that will change fast) and they are thick as thieves.
Soon, Indy is all grown up and feelings are deeper on both sides but Fletcher has plans for Milo. He is to marry Jolene, his niece and heir apparent and the woman Indy hates most in her life.
But Milo is hers… and she is his. If this is love….

Oh sweet lord. Kudos to Meg Sylvan (new to me) and Tim Paige (whom I love) for taking us through this journey of so much angst and pain and heartache. There are so many twists and turns and evil things happening to Indy and Milo that you can barely breathe. And it’s all there in their performances. Meg plays the sassy Indy, whose spirit is unbreakable and it’s amazing. Tim, loved the twang!
So, be ready for heartache and pain, but it all works out in the end!
Kudos for Jewel E. Ann for naming the man-stealing villainess Jolene! Perfect!
