Summary
The very best journalism from one of Britain's most admired and outspoken science writers, author of the best-selling Bad Science and Bad Pharma.
In Bad Science, Ben Goldacre hilariously exposed the tricks that quacks and journalists use to distort science. In Bad Pharma, he put the $600 billion global pharmaceutical industry under the microscope. Now the pick of the journalism by one of our wittiiest, most indignant and most fearless commentators on the worlds of medicine and science is collected in one volume.
Critic reviews
From the reviews of Bad Science:
”For sheer savagery, the illusion-destroying, joyous attack on the self-regarding, know-nothing orthodoxies of the modern middle classes, Bad Science cannot be beaten. You'll laugh your head off, then throw all those expensive health foods in the bin.” (Trevor Philips, Observer (Book of the Year))
“Unmissable…laying about himself in a froth of entirely justified indignation, Goldacre slams the mountebanks and bullshitters who misuse science. Few escape: drug companies, self-styled nutritionists, deluded researchers and journalists all get thoroughly duffed up. It is enormously enjoyable.” (The Times (Book of the Year))
From the reviews of Bad Pharma:
”This is a book to make you enraged - properly, bone-shakingly furious…A work of brilliance.” (Daily Telegraph)
“An important book. Ben Goldacre is angry, and by the time you put Bad Pharma down, you should be too.” (New Statesman)
“A book that deserves to be widely read, because anyone who does read it cannot help feeling both uncomfortable and angry.” (Economist)

Book version of Guardian articles
Enjoyed it but don't know why they change narrator part way through.
It's informative but the idiocy of humans can be very infuriating! Making it difficult to listen to in long sittings! I could cope better when it was short articles on a weekly basis!

Dr Goldcare's corrections: The Compilation Edition
First of all I would like to make it clear that this is a compilation book of articles by Dr Goldacre written over the last several years for the Guardian newspaper although he does state early on that a new book in the vein of Bad Science or Bad Pharma is forthcoming.
I enjoyed the book in both its more serious and silly moments. Goldacre is able to balance outrage at Government misinformation with taking a few easy shots at funny targets. There were several times in this book - same as with Bad Science - that I was struggling not to laugh in public.
Personally I would have preferred if Goldacre had been able to read the whole book himself but both narrators do an admirable job. The only negative thing in this entire book is that it seems to end too quickly!
I look forward to the next book by Goldacre but be aware what you are buying. I can't wait myself!

Great read, but...
The book is a great read, not doubt about it. As with his other books, it painfully convincingly brings home the point that humans are generally stupid, evil or both and that it's astonishing that we as a specie have managed to survive & prosper this long. While I'm contemplating relocation into some sparsely inhabited part of the planet, I'm eagerly awaiting Ben's next publication.

A fantastic book which everyone should read.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd recommend it to everyone, so they can stop acting like sheep, believing everything they hear or read in the media and taking it as fact.
What other book might you compare I Think You'll Find It's a Bit More Complicated Than That to, and why?
Obviously his other books, Bad Science, etc, which I also highly recommend.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I was eager to listen at every opportunity.
Any additional comments?
People think they 'know' things, when it truth they mostly know what others want them to know.
Hopefully this book will make at least a few decide to think for themselves before assuming that what their GP, or favourite newspaper says is 'right', and does not need to be questioned.

Brilliant
Only wish Ben had read the whole thing, but Jot Davis is superb as Ben. Laughed out loud in a number of places given Ben's wonderful dry humour.

science writing at it's best
a great way to help you understand evidence based science. Well explained and interesting as to how we are constantly misled by journalists not doing their job right
