Story
In the boot were six homemade pipe bombs, all linked to detonate at the same time from a single call on a brand-new pay-as-you-go phone found on the target. Special Branch also found Chinese Type 56 assault rifles with eight full magazines of ammunition. His target was a local school. He planned to attack two coaches of teenagers returning home after a school trip to France. Approximately 60 children, their accompanying teachers and their waiting parents. He was going to kill them all.

Story
This is my account of life as a hitman from someone who has been doing it for years. Hitmen commit heinous crimes virtually every day of the week and, in most instances, we don't even realise. I've been a killer for hire for more than 20 years now, but life as a fulltime professional assassin has never been easy. There have been close calls, failed attempts and a lot of looking over my shoulder. And now, I've decided to come clean and seek atonement for my life as a murderer and one of the most covertly dangerous men alive.

Story
For the freedom fighters it was an incredible opportunity to strike deep into the core of the United Kingdom. No longer need they rely on soft targets, murdering ordinary men and women, to build fear and terror. Now they could attack at the heart of the British Government, killing Members of Parliament one by one until their demands were met. The planning had been extensive and years in the making. The highly trained team was already in England and a traitor, high up in the British Secret Service, was providing them with all the information they could possibly need. They could not fail.

Story
In 2023, after Britain has exited the EU, immigration is still above target and the NHS buckles under the enormous demands that are placed upon it. In the eyes of many, things hadn’t changed since Brexit. A year earlier, two-party politics was swept aside as a new political order, the English Independence Party (EIP), surged to power.
Summary
The explosive book from ex-MI5 surveillance officer Tom Marcus takes the listener on a non-stop, adrenaline-fuelled ride as he hunts down those who would do our country harm.
Tom spent years working covertly to stop those who want to do us harm. In his best-selling memoir Soldier Spy, he told how he was recruited and described some of his top-secret operations. In I Spy, he takes us deeper undercover as he puts his life on the line once more.
I Spy plunges the listener straight into the action as Tom and his team race to prevent terrorists from causing carnage on our streets and outsmart Russian agents, blocking a daring plot that threatens the security of the nation. Relying on their quick wits, training and courage, the extraordinary men and women of MI5 are under intense pressure every day. Not everyone is suited for the work, and Tom shows how the incredibly tough challenges he faced growing up gave him the mental strength and skills to survive in a dangerous world.
Gritty and eye-opening, this is a unique insight into a hidden war and the sacrifices made by those who fight it. You will never take your safety for granted again.
This audiobook includes an interview between author, Tom Marcus, and reader, Jason Langley.

very insightful - slightly over-performed
really insightful view both of the work that the UK security services do, and of the mental pressures that such work exerts. I wasnt expecting the book to deal with mental health, and to be honest at first I was less interested in this aspect, but as the book progressed this turned out to be extremely interesting.
I was surprised, and hooked by the level of detail that 'Tom' went into on the tactics, techniques and procedures - as well as the play-by-play details of each mission... which is far more detailed than anything I've personally seen before... at least for operations that were so recent and still relevant to today's environment.
The performance was, in my opinion, slightly over done with too much emphasis delivered on each and every sentence. listening to the epilogue/extra content it's clear that the narrator has a much more relaxed natural voice, which oddly enough is very similar to 'Tom's' - I personally think it would have been better had the narrator taken this more relaxed tone through certain sections of the book, to give a more varied sence of pace and emphasis.
Overall though, I loved it. smashed through the book in a couple of car journeys - will definitely listen to again.

Little of interest and poor narrator
If you're looking for a meaningful insight into MI5, then look elsewhere. This is simply a rather dull narrative of surveillance operations. Hiding in parks and following suspects whilst trying to blend in and not be detected. Hardly groundbreaking stuff. The real details of MI5 ops is obviously secret, that means little detail and lots of padding out with accounts of a troubled childhood, poorly written narrative and scene setting. I found the narrator irritating.

Top read.
A fantastic, thrilling and incredibly honest account of life at the sharp end. Thoroughly enjoyed this, and “ soldier spy “previously. Many of my mates are forces and ex-forces, one of which followed a very similar career path to the author. Making this an even more fascinating read for me, given my mates background. Many thanks to the author for such a fantastic insight into your world. Takes balls to publicly portray your experiences with PTSD. Much respect. Best wishes to you and your family for the future. PS I have also read “protect and kill “ and thoroughly enjoyed it and hope there will be more to follow. All the best. Mark mac.

It really is the screams you hear first...
That's how this book starts. The screaming...oh dear the screaming.
The writer seems to suffer from an inability to seperate his own experience with those he has made up. It's unclear about the level of artistic licence that has been taken here. Seemingly every experience he has had has included knife edge situation and winner take stakes.
The level that the author goes to in terms of self-introspection is astounding...he seems to cultivate an atitidue that he was simulatneously an opressed person and totally in control of his situation irrespective of the surrounding conditions. It is difficult to understand how the stories he writes about could be true.
I for one can't believe it...

Mesmerising!
From the opening scene to the end this simply had me in thrall. I'll claim no expertise on how authentic this actually is, after all my knowledge of MI5 is made up of the output of various thriller writers and not much more. However, it feels real, the authenticity promised by an ex-operative seems to be delivered in spades.
A big part of the reason for this, it has to be said, is the excellent narration by Jason Langley, he strikes just the right tone and in combination with Marcus's writing it felt possible to imagine being out there as part of a surveillance team, alone in a bar of strangers or flat out in the grass of a Welsh hillside.
Just how complete a picture it is we can't tell, after all I am sure that MI5 would take a dim view on too much of their operational procedure being revealed. It is though fascinating and what's more it also provides examples of the toll that this dangerous, highly pressurised work has on those who do it. And thankful we are that they do!
If you liked the previous books by this author and want some more then this delivers brilliantly.

Sounds like Ringo Starr narrating Thomas
This appeared to be exactly the kind of book I was looking for and while I am aware there are operational things that can't be discussed, it appears the book has gone so far the other way to become bland and overloaded with obscure detail.
At times I was waiting for the theme tune of Thomas the tank engine as the narrator has that drone of Ringo.
I would love to know how many minutes were devoted to callsigns.
This could be so much more instead the melodramatic car crash/shooting that never was, perfectly sums up this book.
Thank you for your service but the book was a let down

If you Read Soilder Spy you'll love this one.
it's a mix of stories which were not in the first book. but also a look into Tom Marcus's background. how he grew up and how he lives during and after MI5.
Alot of eye opening tales which show not only the seriousness of national security but how the very people who give the most for our protection, then deal with life after the service.

Another good book by Tom. Gripping and exciting sometimes while listening I'd realize how I was hanging on every word. Obviously if I can find myself white knuckling it just listening to it it's no wonder he had PTSD. I do recommend his other book soldier spy first but this is a really good follow up.

Excellent
Having previously read Soldier, Spy, I was a lite nervous getting this title as I feared it would be much of the same, but how wrong I was.
Tom delivers a fast paced account of many of his missions and Langley delivers it perfectly.
The story and narration is gritty, fast paced and a pure adrenalin ride from cover to cover..
Excellent work and I can't wait to listen to more of this duo working in collaboration together.
