Summary
The BBC Radio 2 Book Club pick and instant Sunday Times best seller
You can save hundreds of lives.
Or the one that matters most....
The atmosphere on board the first non-stop flight from London to Sydney is electric. Celebrities are rumoured to be among the passengers in business class, and the world is watching the landmark journey.
Flight attendant Mina is trying to focus on the passengers, instead of her troubled five-year-old daughter back at home - or the cataclysmic problems in her marriage.
But soon after the plane takes off, Mina receives a chilling anonymous note. Someone wants to make sure the plane never reaches its destination. They're demanding her cooperation...and they know exactly how to get it.
It's 20 hours to landing.
A lot can happen in 20 hours....

Good story BUT…..
And its a big BUT …..
Every character sounds exactly the same ( and there are a lot of them). Even the 5 year old child sounds like a grown woman. I had to keep looking at the chapter headline to see who was speaking but this didn’t always help as descriptions were simply seat numbers a lot of the time. So couldn’t tell if they were male, female, old, young, foreign or English. Spoilt the whole experience I’m afraid and was simply confusing and disconcerting. Shame, as the story itself had promise but I wish I’d read it on kindle instead.

Needs a new narrator
This book has a great storyline with decent characters. what is totally lacks is any distinction between the voices of the characters and since the story is told from many perspectives, that's a really important element!

Narration lets it down
Whilst I thought it was an interesting premise upon which to write a novel, and there are plenty of twists and turns in it, I can’t say that it’s one of my favourites. However, this could be because the narration had no difference between the different voices and you often didn’t realise you were listening to a different character for some time into the section.

Disappointing
Is it to late to change the reader? Her voice was far to anxious from the start so never built up ended up being annoying.
Story was ridiculous and although well researched felt like the book was churned out.
Huge fan of other CM books but this one was not up to scratch.

Absolutely phenomenal!
I flew as cabin crew for 7 years, and am often frustrated and annoyed by works which are set in this world. However, the author has captured the detail with such accuracy, that I could settle in and enjoy the story without being constantly irritated by things that just wouldn't happen, or weren't right. I'm also a mum, and the way in which parental guilt and family dynamics are explored in this book, moved me deeply and had me in tears on more than one occasion. Out of nearly 300 audible listens, this is the first time I've been compelled to write a review. The characters, flawed in believable and very human ways, felt like real people. Fantastic book. Well done, Clare Mackintosh, I'm off to download another of your books now!

Would make a great film
Great story with a double, or even, triple twist at the end. It was very well read but I would have preferred a man to read Adam's story.

50% really good
The plane and hostage part of the story was really good, but too much 'fluff' about the 5year old and other things. Would have been much better if the male role was played by a male. The narrator's voice doesn't change at all between the male and female characters, so especially at the start I needed to looked at the chapter/name to know who was 'speaking'.

Terrifyingly, edge of your seat brilliant
Wow. I read this in almost one go. Would have if I hadn’t needed to quite literally force myself to press stop at quarter to four in the morning so I could get some sleep! An absolutely amazing read. The suspense had my pulse racing and I felt as if I was on the flight with them. Almost as scared as they were. The way the book flickers from Adam and Sophia to the flight was brilliantly done. Both sub-plots kept me hooked. I didn’t like Adam or Mina at times, and kept asking myself would I have done what Mina did? I honestly hope not, but I don’t know for sure. The very end, as in the epilogue, made me smile with glee. I adored Sophia throughout, especially her commentary of where she was. She had the last laugh here. Highly recommend you read this! You won’t regret it. Don’t miss this one!
